Ross Twp. awards roadwork bids

Ross Township supervisors on Monday discussed the seven bids for black top and two bids for tar and chip projects that they received.

“We got more bids this year than ever before because we used a website called PennBid, and our usual method of advertising in local newspapers for bids,” Supervisor Dave Shay said.

The website streamlines the bidding process and “notifies all relevant bidders by service type and location, reaching the maximum number of qualified bidders,” the website says.

The bids are sent electronically, whereas those who respond to newspaper advertisements mail in a bid packet of paperwork.

Road foreman Ethan Brewer discussed the various bids with Shay and Supervisor Randy Detrick.

They said that James D. Morrissey Inc. had the lowest bid, at $233,467, for black topping a section of Rolling Hills Road. Pocono Spraypatching Inc. had the lowest bid, at $74,977.20, to tar and chip the portions of Bonser Road, Brick Church Road and Young Road that are in Ross Township.

The supervisors voted unanimously to award the bids to James D. Morrissey and Pocono Spraypatching. The township has about $247,000 from this year’s budget and liquid fuels account plus money left from last year to pay for roadwork, Shay said.
