Penn Forest OKs resignation, talks, funds
Penn Forest Township supervisors approved several actions during new business Monday night, including personnel changes, upcoming union negotiations and recreation-related expenditures.
The board accepted the resignation of administrative assistant Julie Rossi and approved advertising for her replacement.
Union negotiations between Teamsters Local 773 and Penn Forest Township will take place in May. The current contract expires Dec. 31.
The board also approved a $1,000 donation to Jim Thorpe’s 29th annual summer recreation program.
Additionally, $1,100 was approved for the purchase of Kuhn infield mix from Jim Thorpe Little League for use at the township park field.
Comfort Electric will repair a light switch and fixture at the park concession stand at a cost of $325.
Paving projects will begin on Behrens Road. Prior to paving Old Stage Road, eight pipe crossings must be repaired.
The board also noted that the township is currently seeking maintenance staff.
Zoning report
• Conditional approval was granted for the Getz land development plan for a self-storage facility with parking on Route 903.
• An extension was approved until Dec. 30 for the Mazella Enterprises storage reverse subdivision at Route 903 and Reservoir Road.
• A Subdivision and Land Development Ordinance waiver allowing a modified drawing scale was approved for the Fierro reverse subdivision in Mount Pocahontas, pending final payment.
• Conditional approval was granted for the Blackwood subdivision in Pleasant Valley West, subject to payment of outstanding fees.
• A waiver was granted for the Stolzer/Strausser reverse subdivision in Towamensing Trails regarding the requirement to show trees with diameters of 8 inches or more.
Other business
• A decision regarding the promotion of transfer station employee Ovel Mebs from part time to full time was tabled.
• The board approved the purchase of street sweeper broom bristles at a cost of up to $1,000.
• A resident from a trash-exempt community inquired about tire disposal. After discussion, the board recommended using a local service center.
• The board added discussion of the transfer station ramp to the agenda. The tolling agreement between the township and engineering firm Barry Isett & Associates will be paused as the parties work through project-related issues.
• Nadira Ragoonanan was sworn in as a member of the fire police.
• Fifty-eight right-to-know requests for zoning and septic records were received in March, along with four administrative and financial requests, totaling 33.25 staff hours.
