A sixth grader at the L.B. Morris Elementary School, Jim Thorpe, was accorded the honor of breaking ground early Saturday afternoon for the $800,000 addition to the facility off West 10th Street.

Nicole Gilotti, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Gilotti Jr. of Kidder Township, used a silver-plated shovel to break ground and was joined by Sharon Joseph, a member of the board of education who served as chairperson for the program.

The two-story annex will provide for a new administrative suite on the first floor and four additional classrooms on the second floor.

The school was first occupied in April, 1978, according to Superintendent of Schools Thomas J. Sangiuliano, who spoke during the program.
