Brush fire reported to still be burning
Lehigh Township Fire Marshal Rick Hildebrand reported this week that the brush fire on Cherryville Road was still burning.
“We don’t see it going out real soon,” Hildebrand said. “All the rain we just got just evaporated. If it really starts up again or starts to move, we do have air support from the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources — a helicopter.”
Hildebrand also told supervisors the firetruck the township ordered is seven months ahead of schedule.
Supervisor Cindy Miller raised concerns about funding, saying, “OK, but how are we going to pay for it? They need to suspend production.”
Board President Mike Jones responded, “You can’t just let a vehicle sit unfinished for seven months.”
Solicitor David Backenstoe recommended accepting the truck early.
“Just take it early when it’s ready,” he said. “With all the tariffs that are coming, just get it done. Find out about leasing it until the contract for payment is due in seven months.”
Other business
The board of supervisors on Tuesday also discussed several items, with Vice Chairman Gerald Pritchard and Supervisor David Hess absent.
• The board approved the preliminary/final minor subdivision plan for Tyler and Emily Landis. The plan includes a three-lot subdivision and two waiver requests — one for scale mapping and another for verification that no wetlands exist on the site. A recreation fee of $750 will be assessed. The plan is set to expire on April 30.
• Public works will begin line painting on Cotton Wood Drive and workers are set to repair 8 miles of township roads. The road crew will also place burn ban signs at major entrances into the township.
• The board approved $1,000 to purchase six outfield signs for Danielsville Park. Local businesses can sponsor signs featuring their logo or advertisement. The cost is $1,000 for a three-year commitment.
• Police Chief Scott Fogel received approval to apply for a COPS Hiring Grant, which would fund new officers’ salaries for three years.
• The board approved a resolution authorizing up to $10,000 for emergency funding to Township Manager Alice Rehrig. Any amount beyond that would require additional board approval.
• Blue Mountain Quarter Midget Racing’s request to install a 65-foot fence and 35 feet of paving was approved, pending permits from Code and Zoning.
