Tamaqua couple facing charges in disorderly conduct case

A Tamaqua couple is facing charges of disorderly conduct after police said they were causing a disturbance on the 100 block of Pitt Street at 2:20 a.m. April 2.

Police were sent to the location after a caller said two people were arguing outside and one of them was running away.

When police arrived, they saw a man, later identified as Jeffrey Torres, 26, fleeing.

Police said they then saw Jasmine McGroggan, 40, attempting to hide behind a parked car, and took her into custody since she showed signs of intoxication. She told police that “nothing” had happened.

McGroggan told officers she left a bar and had an argument with Torres, who is her boyfriend. She provided police with contact information for her sister, who police called to retrieve McGroggan once she became sober.

Meanwhile, police received a call from the Schuylkill County Communications Center, asking them to call a man who said he was McGroggan’s brother “Jason” and asked for information about McGroggan, including whether she was in custody.

Officers called the man but said there was a slight language barrier and that the man had an accent. Police then called McGroggan’s sister, who said that they do not have a brother named Jason and that it was likely Torres.

Police obtained more information about Torres and learned that he is wanted in Northampton County on a warrant for simple assault.

McGroggan was later released into the custody of her sister, and told that she would also be charged with public drunkenness. She was advised to contact police if Torres came to her home.
