MCT hosts shredding events in community

A Carbon County-based bank is helping people shred their personal, confidential documents that they no longer need.

During the recent Nesquehoning Borough Council meeting, Councilwoman Lois Kuba stated that Mauch Chunk Trust Company, which has a branch in Redner’s Warehouse Market, will be holding its annual shredding days for those in need of getting rid of personal documents that should not just be thrown away. A truck will be in Nesquehoning on May 3.

Kuba said that the bank will have a truck outside the bank for the event from 9 a.m.-noon, and noted this is for residents, not businesses. It is a free event.

“It’s a good opportunity for people to get rid of all they things they want to shred,” Kuba said.

The bank states on its website that personal, confidential documents will be shredded on-site during the event. There is a limit of five banker’s boxes worth of material that will be accepted from one person. A banker’s box is typically 12 inches wide by 15 inches deep by 10 inches high.

“This is not a recycling event — only sensitive documents with private information should be considered for secure shredding,” the bank states.

In addition to Nesquehoning, Mauch Chunk Trust is holding a shred day at its other locations from 9 a.m. to noon on the following days.

• Saturday: Hometown, 226 Claremont Ave., Tamaqua.

• April 26: West Penn, 1331 Clamtown Road, Tamaqua.

• May 3: Nesquehoning.

• May 10: Albrightsville, 7 Pine Point Drive, Albrightsville.

• May 17: Lehighton, 735 Blakeslee Boulevard, Drive East, Lehighton.
