E. Penn resident says township should discuss warehouses
Potential warehouse development was a key topic raised by residents at the April East Penn Township supervisors meeting, alongside discussions on equipment replacement and announcements for upcoming community activities.
Resident Kathy Henderson addressed the supervisors regarding concerns about possible warehouses moving into the township.
She urged the board to “be proactive before having to be reactive” on the issue.
Township Manager Jillyan Sterling responded that she would consult the zoning regulations but stated her belief that there is likely not enough currently zoned land available for such large-scale developments.
Roadmaster Brandon Bradford informed the supervisors that he is gathering quotes to replace the township’s backhoe.
Current figures include a quote from Caterpillar for its top model at $153,725, which does not include a trade-in allowance.
John Deere has quoted $138,000 for its comparable model, a price that includes a $16,000 trade-in value for the township’s existing equipment.
Bradford noted he will continue negotiations with both suppliers to secure the best possible pricing.
Resident Jeff Weiner requested that the local boat launch be referred to as the “East Penn Boat Launch.”
He said, “We pay for it, and we maintain it. Anything on this side of the river belongs to East Penn.”
The yearly Dumpster Day is scheduled for Saturday, from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. at the Community Center. Chairman John Strockoz said, “If the truck is full before 2 o’clock, the event will end.”
Flyers detailing acceptable items are available at the township office.
On Saturday, the annual Easter Egg Hunt for children ages 1 through 12 will take place at 2 p.m. at the Community Center.
A Children’s Fishing Contest is planned for May 17, running from 9 a.m.-2 p.m., with registration opening at 8 a.m.
