Chestnuthill vacates portion of Firehouse Lane
Chestnuthill Township Board of Supervisors last week held a public hearing about vacating a portion of Firehouse Lane.
The section of road in question will be used by Cristola Holdings LLC for a truck repair shop.
Attorney F. Andrew Wolf explained, “The portion of the road is no longer necessary for the township to own and maintain, as it does not serve any public purpose.”
Desiree Murray, a resident of Amy Lane behind Firehouse Lane, questioned “how someone is acquiring property for free.”
Wolf responded that “by law, adjoining properties can take the vacated road.” The ordinance to vacate was passed.
Road work
Concerns had been raised at previous meetings regarding detours for the Merwinsburg Road project, as the detour routes are not designed for heavy traffic.
Gould said Thursday that the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation will not be adjusting the Route 115 detours as suggested. Instead, the agency plans to move forward with reversing the traffic pattern on April 10, weather permitting.
He asked PennDOT to provide additional signs to alert drivers about the change.
