Pizza sale canceled
The pizza sale scheduled for April 11 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Effort, is being canceled due to unforeseen circumstances.
The church is located at 164 Merwinsburg Road and can be reached at 570-629-4309.
However, the church is having a fundraiser at the church on May 2 when Vince’s Cheesesteak Food Truck will be there from 11:30 a.m.-6 p.m.
In addition, the church will hold a bake sale that day.
Lenten event
The Rev. Robert Simon’s Lenten series at Our Lady Queen of Peace in Brodheadsville are held Wednesdays at 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. through April 9.
Family matters
Mount Eaton Church, Saylorsburg, will hold its Young Adults Ministry on “Walking the Road Less Traveled” at 7 p.m. on Tuesday in Beacon Hall.

Youth events
Our Lady Queen of Peace Church holds First Holy Communion rehearsal for First Holy Communion children at 9:10 a.m. on Sunday.
Confirmation participants will have class at 3 p.m., followed by the Penance service.
And for those older youths planning to attend further education upon graduation, the Knights of Columbus are offering two Leo Weir Memorial Scholarships.

Auction Saturday
Effort UMC is having its Missions Outreach Auction on Saturday. Preview of items begins at 5 p.m.
Polk Historical
The Polk Township Historical Society will meet at the municipal building on Saturday. All citizens interested in local history are invited. Anyone having questions can call Norm Burger at 610-681-7561.
Church reminder
Our Lady Queen of Peace Church reminds its families that Religious Education registrations are open for the 2025-26 academic season. New registrations are required each year to update the church records.
Copies of the form are available on Linda Carbone’s office door or on the church’s website.
Payment may be remitted through the “On Line Giving” on the church’s website, cash, or check made out to “Our Lady Queen of Peace Church.”
Anyone with questions or concerns, is asked to Carbone through the church flocknote or call the office.
Retirement event
The Western Pocono Community Library is the host site for a retirement workshop being held at 2 p.m. Saturday by Thrivent’s Daryl Brown, adviser with Thrivent Financial in Brodheadsville, who has an office in Lehighton.
Meet the artist
Kettle Creek Environmental Education Center hosts “Meet the Artist,” on Saturday.
David Seiple, the artist, will be at the Art Gallery at Kettle Creek from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. while folks can view his show, ‘Wild About Life,’ a collection of his life’s work in a variety of media including charcoal pencils, acrylics and oil pastels.
An avid outdoorsman, Seiple has taught himself to capture the beauty of nature in a multitude of media.
His work will be on display in the art gallery for the month of April. The gallery is open Monday to Friday from 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. and will be open Saturdays April 5 and April 26 from 9 a.m.-1 p.m.
There is no charge for the program and preregistration is not required.

Block shoot
The next block shoot and meat raffle by the Kunkletown Rod & Gun Club is set for Sunday, at 11 a.m. at 122 Gun Club Lane, Saylorsburg. It is open to the public.
It is a 12-gauge shotgun event only.

Our Lady Queen of Peace Church will hold a Penance service at 4:30 p.m. Sunday.
Young Adults meet
On Sunday, beginning at 6 p.m., the Young Adults at Our Lady Queen of Peace (ages 18-35), who have RSVP’d, will meet at the Lakeside for a discussion on the Sacraments as led by the deacons.
Bingo Nite
The American Legion Post 927 is hosting Bingo Nite at 6:30 p.m. Monday. It is an open-to-community event. Card sales begin at 6:30 p.m. The first game is called at 7 p.m.
ID theft seminar
Rep. Jack Rader is hosting an identity theft seminar on April 10 at the Blakeslee Community Center at 5669 Route 115, in Blakeslee.
Doors open at 5:30 p.m.; the seminar begins at 6 p.m.
The speaker will be David Shallcross, director of Senior Protection from the Pennsylvania Office of the Attorney General.

Egg hunt set
St. Peter’s UMC, 924 Rt. 115, Saylorsburg, will welcome children ages 2-10 to its annual egg hunt on the church grounds at 11 a.m. April 12.
There will be prizes in all age categories for most number of eggs collected and finding the Golden Egg.
The rain date is April 19.
Bereavement Support
St. Luke’s Hospice Bereavement Support Program will host its next monthly Adult Grief Support Group at the Western Pocono Community Library, Brodheadsville, on April 16, from-2:30 p.m.
The group is open to the public. It is led by a St. Luke’s Hospice Bereavement counselor.

The Tick Research Lab of PA, in partnership with East Stroudsburg University, reminds pet owners that prevention is the key to protecting your pet from tickborne illness.
That includes regular pet grooming, bedding washing, and vacuuming carpets, curtains and furniture, etc.

Pocono ghosts program
The Ross and Eldred Township historical societies are hosting author L’Aura Hldak-Hoffman’s presentation “Ghosts of the Poconos” from 1:30-3 p.m. April 26 in the Community Room of the Western Pocono Community Library on Pilgrim Way in Brodheadsville.
The author has been ghost-hunting for over 20 years and founded the New Jersey Ghost Hunters Society in 1998.
There is no admission charge, for the Brodheadsville event but donations are welcome.
Turkey meals order
Salem-St. Paul Lutheran Church, Kresgeville, is holding a turkey takeout dinner on May 3 from 4 to 5:30 p.m.
The platter includes turkey with gravy, filling, carrots, applesauce, roll and choice of cake, with pickup from 4-5:30 p.m.
People can choose molasses cake or apple cake for dessert.
Orders must be placed by calling 570-688-5381 no later than April 20.
The church is also taking orders for celery seed dressing, by the quart or pint.

Flea market set
Folks are invited to plan to sell or buy at St. Peter’s UMC’s Spring Flea Market on May 17. Rain date is May 24.
