Local roundup: Results from April 4

The Northwestern and Northern Lehigh baseball and softball teams all recorded victories on Friday.

Tamaqua and Panther Valley also posted wins in softball action.

BASEBALL

N. Lehigh-Jim Thorpe

Northern Lehigh used a late surge to secure an 8-6 Colonial League win over Jim Thorpe.

Parker Schaffer was 3-for-3 with a double, two RBIs and a run scored for the Bulldogs, who scored two runs in the top of the fifth inning to take a one run lead and added four more in the sixth. Braedon Dougherty added two hits and three RBIs while Landon Cougle went 2-for-3 with and RBI and a run scored.

Brody Schrantz was 2-for-4 with three RBIs for the Olympians, who scored a run in the bottom of the sixth and added another in the seventh. Cole Lazorick doubled among his two hits with an RBI and a run scored and Noah Pastor added two hits. Nathan Frasor had a hit and two RBIs.

Northwestern-Palmerton

Northwestern pounded out 11 hits en route to a 13-4 Colonial League win over Palmerton.

Aidan Freeman paced the Tigers with three hits and finished with two RBIs and a run scored. Watson Church and Josh Farber each had a pair of hits with two RBIs and a run scored. Cole Dynda struck out 12 and allowed just two hits in six innings of work.

Luke Matsko was 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI for the Bombers, who pushed across all four runs in the bottom of the seventh inning.

Nativity-Weatherly

Nativity rolled to a 20-0 win over Weatherly in Schuylkill League action to secure its second straight victory.

Tommy Bartashus gave the Hilltoppers some pop in the middle of the lineup with five RBIs, while Nick Wagner went 3-for-5 with two doubles, two RBIs and three runs scored. Andrew Verchick also had two hits while scoring once and adding an RBI. Ryan Examitis had a hit with three RBIs and three runs scored for the winners.

Michael Davies stole two bases and had a walk for the Wreckers.

SOFTBALL

Tamaqua-Lehighton

Tamaqua rolled to a 13-1 non-league win in five innings over Lehighton.

Leah Crowley was 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored for the Raiders. Molly Evans doubled and drove in four runs while also scoring twice. Veronica Scott doubled with three RBIs. Ceanna Gormley also had a hit and knocked in two runs. Peyton Faust struck out eight and allowed two hits in five innings for the winners.

Makenna Snyder and Aliyah Nothstein had hits for the Indians.

Northwestern-Palmerton

Northwestern scored seven runs in the final two innings to come away with a 7-1 Colonial League win over Palmerton.

Abby Dunstan was 1-for-4 with two RBIs, recording the 100th hit of her career. Ainsley Behler and Samantha Boyer were each 2-for-4 with an RBI for the Tigers, who scored three times in the top of the sixth and added four runs in the top of the seventh.

Hailey Delgado was 2-for-4 with an RBI for the Bombers. Molly Binder and Morgan Wayda each had a hit.

Panther Vy.-Linc. Leadership

Panther Valley blasted Lincoln Leadership Academy for a 16-1 non-league win in three innings.

Brooklynn Mika had a hit and drove in three runs for the Panthers, who led 6-0 after the first inning. Morgan O’Brien had a hit, two RBIs and scored twice, and Isabella D’Ancona doubled with an RBI and two runs scored. Janessa Prudente walked three times and scored three runs, and Caroline Breslin walked twice and scored three times for PV, which drew 15 walks in the game. Prudente had five strikeouts in two innings and combined with Danika Blazosky and Paige Goida on a three-inning no-hitter.

N. Lehigh-Jim Thorpe

A quick start and a stellar pitching performance carried Northern Lehigh to an 8-0 Colonial League win over Jim Thorpe.

The Bulldogs, who have now won three in a row, scored six runs in the first two innings, and got a strong outing from starter Addison Smith, who struck out 11 and didn’t walk a batter. McKenzie Chruscial homered, and Marisa Maehrer and Kylee Snyder both doubled.

Hannah Zacharias and Gloria Strohl each had two hits for the Olympians.
