Concerned Citizens of Carbon County to hold demonstrations

Concerned Citizens of Carbon County will participate in nationwide demonstrations on Saturday.

The organization will hold a demonstration from noon to 1 p.m., at the Carbon County Courthouse Annex, 1 Hazard Square, Jim Thorpe.

The nationwide protests are being organized by a group called “Indivisible” and the local demonstration includes a wide range of participants.

Organizer Midge Heiser said, “I expect Democrats, Republicans and Independents who are concerned about the actions taken by President Donald Trump and Co-President Musk to attend and all are welcome.”

Heiser cites the cuts to the Veterans’ Administration, to Social Security and to Medicare as issues of concern.

She has organized the event because so many people were looking for a way to show their opposition to these cuts.

“I understand more cuts are on the way for the Environmental Protection Agency, for support to local schools, and planned cuts to the Post Office with many small post offices to close,” Heiser said. “These cuts will impact Carbon County”

Heiser said the local event will be peaceful and respectful of the rights of others.
