Robert Werner, 71, died Tuesday in a fire in Polk Township.
He was pronounced dead on the scene at 5:46 p.m. at the home on Long Mountain Road, Polk Township.
An autopsy was scheduled for Wednesday.
A Pennsylvania State Police fire marshal was on the scene all afternoon at 679 Long Mountain Road in Polk Township.
The fire was reported at the two-story home shortly before noon Tuesday.
Troopers from the Pennsylvania State Police Lehighton barracks responded to the residence for a report of a house that was fully engulfed in flames.
His wife Diana was taken to the hospital from the scene. Her condition is not known at this time.
The cause of the fire does not appear to be suspicious and is still under investigation by the Troop M Criminal Investigation Unit and Fire Marshal Unit.
Fire departments responding in addition to Polk Township included West End Fire Company, Blue Ridge Fire Company, Kunkletown and Pocono Township. From Carbon County, Towamensing and Penn Forest Volunteer Fire Company No. 2 responded.
A GoFundMe has been started for the family.
Debra Cormey, of Effort, said she organized the fundraiser Tuesday for the woman.
“The Werner Family has tragically taken a deep loss today,” Cormey said. “They have lost their entire home, numerous pets, and the worst of it all, Diane and her family have lost Bob, who is her dear husband, father, and grandfather, in this fire.”
Contacted Wednesday morning, Cormey said Diane had been released from the hospital for smoke inhalation that she had incurred while trying to rescue her husband. She is now with family while they all try to absorb, sort and just figure what to do at this point, she said.
Cormey added that the family were very big in the Jaycee Organization.
Cormey said they are also taking donations for essentials and clothing drop-off location is Grapevine Antiques & Crafts Mall — located behind CVS in Brodheadsvile.
If anyone would like sizes for clothing, they may private (message) her, and said Target card donations would be greatly appreciated.
As of 10 a.m. Wednesday, $7,647 of the $10,000 goal had been raised.
