Local Roundup: Results from April 1

Emma Freeman pitched a gem in Northwestern’s victory on Tuesday. The Jim Thorpe softball team also rolled to an impressive victory.

The Tigers also scored a dramatic overtime victory in boys lacrosse action.

SOFTBALL

Northwestern-Saucon Vy.

Emma Freeman threw a 14-strikeout no-hitter in Northwestern’s 8-0 romp over Saucon Valley in Colonial League play.

Abby Dunstan had two hits with a double, RBI and three runs scored, while Molly Schlofer, Natalie Conner (double) and Ainsley Behler each drove in a run for the Tigers.

Northwestern won its fourth straight since a 7-1 loss to Nazareth March 21.

Madison Schwartz fired a shortened no-hitter and Isabella Sully knocked in five runs to help Jim Thorpe snap a five-game losing streak with a 33-0 non-league win over Notre Dame East Stroudsburg.

Schwartz, who drove in four runs, Isabella Lloyd and Madison Lordi had two hits apiece for the Olympians, who only had eight hits and drew 24 walks. Sully recorded five walks.

Schwartz struck out eight and walked two over 52 pitches.

Pleasant Valley-PM West

Pleasant Valley jumped out to a commanding lead early, and the Bears barreled their way to a 13-3 Eastern Pennsylvania Conference victory over Pocono Mountain West.

The Bears scored six runs in the third to take a 12-1 lead, highlighted by Brianca Pridham’s three-run homer.

Kailyn Getz, who allowed two hits and struck out nine, had two hits, and Rylan Knapp added a pair.

Williams Valley erupted for 12 runs in the second inning and sailed to a 25-0 victory over Weatherly in Schuylkill League action.

Sage Smeltz blasted a two-run homer and had four RBIs, and Quin Smeltz plated three runs.

Rachel Rosenlund and Abby Weston had the hits for the Wreckers.

North Schuylkill provided an early exit for Panther Valley in an 18-0 Schuylkill League victory.

The Spartans struck for 14 runs in the first inning and sealed the game two frames later. Lindsay Brouse had three hits and three RBIs for North Schuylkill.

Kyla McQuillen and Caroline Breslin had the lone hits for Panther Valley.

BASEBALL

Marian-Shenandoah Valley

A three-run third inning was all Marian needed to register a 3-1 Schuylkill League win over Shenandoah Valley.

After back-to-back singles by Alex Diaz and Rocco Griguoli in the bottom of the third, Cole Defrancisco delivered a two-run single to right to score both.

After Tyler Rebarchak entered the game as a courtesy runner, he stole third and scored on a throwing error by the Devils to cap the Colts’ scoring.

Griguoli posted two singles and a double.

Defrancisco earned the pitching win for the Colts, as he went five innings, struck out five, walked three and only allowed one run.

N. Schuylkill-Panther Vy.

Two solid innings helped North Schuylkill pull away for a 10-2 Schuylkill League win over Panther Valley.

Starter Stephen Minahan and reliever Kolton Joyce combined on a three-hitter for the Spartans. Minahan allowed all three hits and struck out three to earn the win, while Joyce earned the save with three innings of no-hit ball that included five strikeouts.

Danny Wehr, Connor Penberth and Gavin Yuricheck accounted for the three hits for the Panthers.

Penberth and Cameron Caffery each scored a run.

Stroudsburg knocked off Pleasant Valley 9-5 in Eastern Pennsylvania Conference action.

The Bears got on the board in the bottom of the first inning thanks to a two-run double off the bat of Cameron King.

In the third, the Bears capitalized on a Mountie error to score two runs, as Jake Procita and Kole Henry scored. Procita led the way with a single, a walk and two runs scored.

Alex Pacitti paced the Mounties, as he finished with two doubles, a walk and three RBIs.

Freshman Logan Uricchio scored the game-winner in overtime to lift Northwestern to a 7-6 victory over Emmaus.

Uricchio added two assists, and Michael Lagowy scored a pair of goals for the Tigers, who rallied from a 4-2 deficit.

Emmaus edged Northwestern 11-10.

Cara Thomas tallied four goals for the Tigers, and Liv Fagan and Liv Spatz each netted a pair of goals. Ella Collins added a goal and two assists.

Ashley Yacynych recorded eight saves for the Tigers.
