Monroe Co. recognizes efforts of 4-H
The Monroe County commissioners presented a certificate to the 4-H Teen Council in honor of Pennsylvania 4-H Week, March 16-22.
Dominico Corbo, president of the 4-H Teen Council in Monroe County, received the certificate during the commissioners’ regular meeting on March 19. Other members also were present, including Claire Lim, Abigail Smith, Grace Smith, Micah Staples and Xavier Staples.
“Pennsylvania 4-H week showcases the incredible ways that 4-H inspires kids to achieve goals, highlights the remarkable youth in Monroe County who work each day to make a positive impact on those around them,” said Commissioner Dave Parker, who presented the certificate and read the proclamation.
Since its founding in 1902, 4-H has helped nearly 6 million youths in the United States. Parker said that 4-H chapters can be found in all 67 counties in Pennsylvania and has benefited more than 77,000 youths ages 5-18 in the state.
The program is delivered by the Penn State Cooperative Extension, with a network of staff members and more than 6,000 adult volunteers. The program focuses on hands-on projects in animal science, health and wellness, civic engagement, and STEM (science, technology, engineering and math), while providing youths with “opportunities for leadership development, career exploration, problem solving, friendships, community involvement, passion and purpose,” Parker said.
The commissioners also recognized March as Bleeding Disorders Month, and CASUAL Day on March 27.
