Tamaqua residents charged after fight on Rowe Street

Two Tamaqua residents were charged following a fight that happened on the second block of Rowe Street around 8:24 p.m. March 25.

Tamaqua police received a report of a fight involving seven people but when they arrived, no one was there.

Police said Gregory Sperlbaum then approached officers and said he was walking his dog when another dog approached.

He said he jumped on the dog and pulled it away. As he did, he said, people came outside to retrieve their dog and an argument ensued, Sperlbaum said he punched one of them and officers noticed that he had a cut on his hand and appeared drunk. Police told him to go home.

Police then went to the property where the dogs exited. Stephanie Potts, 33, answered and said that the dogs got outside and nothing else happened.

When police asked who was punched in the face, she said it was her boyfriend and that he had gone home. She told police she only knew her boyfriend by the first name of “Greg.”

Police told her that if she was not telling the truth about what happened, she would be arrested.

Police said Potts would not provide any more information. They advised her to keep her dogs inside and not have any contact with Sperlbaum.

Both Sperlbaum and Potts were charged with disorderly conduct, and Sperlbaum faces an addition charge of public drunkenness.
