PSP Fern Ridge - incidents
State police at the Fern Ridge barracks reported the following incidents:
* Gary Sztybel, 63, of Gouldsboro, was cited for retail theft (shoplifting) after police were called to the Shoprite store, 107 Kinsley.
Drive, Chestnuthill Township, at 6:43 p.m. March 19.
Police said it is alleged he placed items valued at $324.38 in his shopping cart and attempted to leave the store without paying for them.
* Police are investigating a burglary that happened between 1 p.m. March 19 and 8:45 a.m. March 20 at 517 Merwinsburg Road, Chestnuthill Township.
They said the victim is Chestnuthill Township, Brodheadsville.
Police said unknown suspects broke a glass to enter the structure and damaged several items inside it, including a door hinge, wood spindles drywall, an antique chandelier a two windows. The estimated damages are $895.
* A 73-year-old Saylorsburg man is the victim of a theft by deception that police were called to at noon March 8 at 195 Darcy Drive, Chestnuthill Township.
Police said it was determined through their investigation the man was “scammed” out of approximately $24,000 by an unknown actor posing as PayPal security. They said a dark-colored SUV, possible a Jeep Cherokee, was seen leaving the victim’s residence after the man handed over cash to the suspect.
The said the actor stole $15,000 in cash and also took $9,000 out of the victim’s account.
* A 66-year-old man and a 57-year-old woman, both from Effort, were cited for harassment by physical contact after police responded to a domestic incident on Orchard View Drive, Chestnuthill Township.
Police said they were called there at 10:30 a.m. March 16.
* Police were called to a criminal mischief incident at McDonald’s on Route 209 in Brodheadsville,Chestnuthill Township, at 8:06 p.m. Feb. 27.
Police said their investigation determined two males vandalized the bathroom inside the restaurant. They said McDonald’s officials did not want police to file charges against the males and only wanted them to leave the premises.
