Monroe County schedules Founders’ Day events

The Monroe County commissioners pointed out some upcoming events during their most recent meeting.

Commissioner David Parker said the Monroe County Founders’ Day will be held on Tuesday.

“There will be food trucks and music, and hopefully nice weather,” he said.

The county was founded on April 1, 1836, and the event will celebrate its 189th anniversary.

Events will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the newly remodeled courthouse and addition in Stroudsburg. Parker said the day will include the unveiling of the Monroe County keystone for the America 250PA Semiquincentennial celebration and courthouse tours from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

At 10 a.m., Amy Leiser, director of the Monroe County Historical Association, will present the history of the county. To attend the presentation, please email Doreen Santiago at dsantiago@monroecountypa.gov or call her at 570-517-3102.

Commissioner John Christy, president of the commissioners, reminded everyone that Community Night will be held at 4 p.m. on May 6 at Northampton Community College Pocono Campus in Tannersville.

The event titled “Community Night: In My Wellness Era!” is hosted by the Monroe County’s Children’s Roundtable. It will include children’s activities, a scavenger hunt, live animal exhibits, more than 100 vendors, vision screenings, and community resources for health, education, mental health treatment and substance use disorder.
