Lehigh Twp. delays building payment
Lehigh Township supervisors have delayed final payment on the new maintenance building.
Vision Mechanical requested final payment No. 12 of $45,234.45 for the new maintenance building.
The board voted against approval because a necessary part for the building is still missing.
Cindy Miller said, “Too many things could still go wrong, like the part that doesn’t work.”
Chairman Mike Jones voted in favor, stating, “We are using the building. It has its certificate of occupancy. The project is complete except for a faulty part for the water tanks in the fire suppression system, which should arrive soon.” Supervisor Jerry Pritchard discussed the tennis court at Berlinsville, saying, “I would like to see the tennis court divided and a pickleball court added.”
Cindy Miller responded, “Why didn’t the Rec Board get a cost estimate and bring it to the board?” Pritchard explained, “Because I wanted to get residents’ opinions first.”
The residents in attendance supported the idea. Regarding the tennis court in Danielsville, Pritchard said Public Works Director Frank Zamadics cannot patch the courts anymore.
“It just doesn’t work well. We need to have Mike Muffley, the township’s engineer, look at it. It will need complete milling, and trees need to be cut back.” Solicitor David Backenstoe added, “You need to make sure of where the property line is.”
The supervisors agreed to obtain quotes for concrete and macadam for the courts and to add park benches. The board agreed to send a letter to Blue Mountain Quarter Midget Racing, 4667 W. Mountain View Drive, Walnutport, because their lease for township-owned land has expired.
The lease requires maintenance of the leased area and board approval for any improvements. Failure to comply could result in termination. A similar letter will be sent to the Lehigh Township Athletic Association, 411 Willow Road, Walnutport, regarding the Treichler’s Complex.
Their lease requires property maintenance, including grass cutting, and board approval for any improvements.
Failure to comply could result in termination. The board approved Township Manager Alice Rehrig’s request to submit a FEMA grant application for a generator Fire Commissioner Rick Hildebrand was approved for up to $2,500 to purchase hoses, a sprinkler system, and tripods for the mulch fire on Cherryville Road.
The fire department has created a containment area to reduce or prevent the fire from spreading. It may take weeks to fully extinguish. Lehigh Township has a burn ban in effect until further notice. No warnings will be issued — violators will be cited immediately. Hildebrand stated, “The fire on Cherryville Road is a criminal investigation.”
The supervisors approved the minutes from the March 11 meeting with one addition: Supervisor Janet Sheats repeated her statement, “Residents can come to meetings when they have concerns,” be included.
