Pleasant Valley School Board

The end of the school year will bring with it some retirements including two teachers at Pleasant Valley High School and the resignation of a third.

Joseph Agolino Jr., an economics, criminal justice and U.S. history teacher, plans to retire, as well as Robin DeVivo, a paraprofessional at the intermediate school.

Both were announced at the school board meeting on March 13.

At the school board meeting on Thursday night, the retirement of biology teacher Shannon Mackes was announced, as well as the retirement of Mariclaire Hosking, a paraprofessional at the middle school.

School board director John Gesiskie said on Thursday, “I want to congratulate and thank Janet Mackes. I see she is retiring. She was a great teacher. I’ve known her for years.”

Gesiskie also thanked Hosking for both her work as a paraprofessional and with the All Sports Club for many years.

Victor Quesada, a teacher at the middle school, resigned, and the resignation of Samantha Grando, a secretary at the intermediate school, was accepted at the March 13 meeting and effective on March 21.

The school board also approved the following personnel items during their meetings on Thursday and March 13:

• Affiliation agreement — Misericordia University.

• Change to current assignment — James Russi, custodian, from floater to PVES, effective March 17, replacing Gerald Wollett; and John Portorreal, from security officer at PVHS to custodian, floater, $19.21 per hour, effective, April 14, replacing James Russi.

• Hiring of professional staff — Lucy Meyer, special education teacher, PVMS, $77,742, effective Aug. 20, new position.

• Hiring of support staff — Katie Shillady, paraprofessional, PVES, $26,914, effective March 31, replacing Joann Micelli; and Stephanie Noto, building secretary, PVIS, $33,605, replacing Samantha Grando; Dawn Sarnelli, custodian, PVES, $19.21 per hour, effective June 9, replacing Thomas O’Leary.

• Intramural advisers — Jillian Janotti and Ashleigh Beck, co-advisers for cheerleading, and Christian Strohl and Hailey Shoemaker, volunteers, PVHS; and Sandra Hughes-Green, adviser, girls lacrosse, PVMS.

• Supplemental contracts: athletic non-coaching — Brent Dorshimer, spring, event worker and substitute, varsity, junior varsity and middle school, $45, $40 and $35 per event, respectively.

• Supplemental contracts: nonathletic — Athena Yeager, after-school tutor, PVIS, $35 per hour.

• Volunteers — Shawna Bond, Jennifer Cabral, Lucas George, Angelica Newell, Amber Uhler, Danielle Temos and Vanessa Jo Montgomery.
