Man who led Rush Twp. chase charged in homicide

The man who authorities say stole a car, committed a home invasion and led police on a two-county chase ending with a crash in Rush Township on Dec. 30 was charged with a homicide in Connecticut.

Earlier this week, New Haven Police Department charged Isaac Cintron, 32, of Chicago, with the shooting death of Heriberto Cotto, 43, of New Haven.

In a release from the department, officers said they received a report of a person shot around 8 p.m. Dec. 24 and found Cotto unresponsive from gunshot wounds.

He was taken to a New Haven hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Through an investigation, officers determined that Cotto was involved in an argument with Cintron before he was shot.

Police secured an arrest warrant for Cintron, who has been jailed since Dec. 30 on the Pennsylvania charges. He will be extradited to Connecticut

Cintron has been held without bail at the Luzerne County Correctional Facility since surrendering to police after he crashed a stolen vehicle on Route 54 in Barnesville.

The pursuit began in Butler Township, Luzerne County, when Butler police officers attempted to stop Cintron, who was driving a vehicle that was reported as stolen in New Jersey.

He fled and drove east in the westbound lanes of Interstate 80 before abandoning the vehicle, firing shots and breaking into a home.

Polce said he stole another vehicle and the chase continued into Schuylkill County.

The pursuit ended when he crashed on Route 54 and was taken into custody.

Pennsylvania State Police charged him with attempted criminal homicide, simple assault, reckless endangerment, aggravated assault, propulsion of missiles into an occupied vehicle or onto a roadway, theft by unlawful taking, receiving stolen property, criminal trespass, robbery of motor vehicle, fleeing or attempting to elude, persons not to possess firearms and evading arrest or detention.
