Palmerton seeks grant to repair clock park

Palmerton has applied for a grant to repair its clock park in the downtown.

Borough council on Thursday agreed to submit a grant application to the Pocono Mountain Visitor’s Bureau for the clock park.

The grant would be used for improvements to the small park in the 400 block of Delaware Avenue.

Borough Manager Autumn Canfield said the full project is $7,385.

“The clock in the park does not work,” Canfield said. “The cost is to replace the mechanics so it works again.”

Canfield noted the grant is a 50% match.

“If awarded, we would get half the cost,” she said. “The borough would pay the other half.”

In February 2023, council submitted a grant application to the PMVB to enhance the park.

Then borough Manager Donna McGarry said the total cost of the project was $18,835.

She said work would involve taking down the trees, grinding the roots, replanting trees and doing some perennial plantings there and installing two pole lights.

The park was developed over 20 years ago when the late Ralph and Daniel Cipko donated the clock that fronts the park.
