Carbon County Commissioners
The Carbon County Commissioners acted on the following items during their meeting last week.
• Ratified the public hearing notice regarding the modification to Lehighton’s Community Development Block grant billing office project. A total of $53,000 will be used for the project to create ADA handicap access, and $34,638 moved to install ADA crossovers/depressions at the Community Grove Park.
• Approve a request from the planning director to extend awarding or rejecting the bids for the Carbon County Whole Home Repair Program until April 3. The delay is due to homeowner delays.
• Approved an agreement with Quincy Technology Solutions Inc. of Woodbridge, Connecticut for unlimited licensed software and maintenance for the coroner’s office through Dec. 31. The cost for license and hosting is $8,237.
• Approved an application for senior judge service reimbursable costs that were incurred while on assignment during calendar year 2024. The total is $1,152.
• Approved a request from Court Information Technology to amend the court Zoom licenses to remove five Zoom rooms and add five room connectors annual at a prorated total of $163.12.
• Approved a grant application for the 2025 Federal Emergency Management Performance Grant requesting funding in the amount of $60,000 to support salaries and benefits of the emergency management coordinator and administrative assistant for the term Oct. 1 through Sept. 30, 2025.
• Approve an addendum to the agreement between Carbon County Area Agency on Aging, Carbon County and the Palmerton Community Ambulance for the purpose of leasing space for the Palmerton Senior Center at 501 Delaware Ave. The annual cost is $7,824.
• Ratified the resolution recognizing Patrick J. Crampsie of Summit Hill as the 2025 Shamrock Award recipient.
• Approved a request from the Mauch Chunk Lake Park director to change the winter boat storage rates for county residents to $150; and non-county residents to $200. This increase takes effect for the 2025 winter season.

• Resignation: Lisa E. Calabrese of Hazle Township, part-time corrections officer, effective March 5.
• Prison board appointments: Kelvin A. Gonzales of Hazleton and Merissa L. Smith of Coaldale, corrections officers, both effective March 17; and Richard L. Pickrell of Lehighton, corrections officer, effective March 24.
• Employment separations: John T. Gablick of Jim Thorpe, assistant deputy warden, effective March 18; Robert J. Sikorsky of Palmerton, part-time parking/meter attendant, effective March 19; and Jenna L. Velas of Lehighton, corrections officer, effective March 13.
• Court appointments: Abigale E. Hoben of Summit Hill, summer law clerk, court administration, effective May 19; and Bradley M. Sawecki of Barnesville, IT specialist, court computer information, effective March 24.
• Sheriff changes of status: Travis L. Day of Summit Hill, from corrections officer to deputy sheriff, effective March 17; Nicole M. Thalmann of Scranton from sergeant to lieutenant, effective March 25; Sydney R. Wernett of Jim Thorpe, from sergeant to deputy sheriff, effective March 25.
