Blues tops this week’s entertainment

“Smoking Gun” hitmaker Robert Cray leads the pack of entertainment coming to local and regional venues over the next two weeks.

The musician, a 2011 Blues Hall of Fame inductee, will play Penn’s Peak, along with his band. The Peak will also host, among others, bluegrass band Railroad Earth.

Wind Creek Event Center, meanwhile, welcomes a diverse lineup of performers, including Italian operatic trio Il Volo, 2024 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee Peter Frampton and dance troupe the Chippendales.

Other highlights include Blue October’s Justin Furstenfeld bringing his acoustic show to the Sherman Theater, and musicals “Girls Night” and “Mean Girls” at the State Theatre.

• Texas Flood, 8 p.m. March 29. The act, which pays tribute to blues legends and also performs its own music, takes its name from Stevie Ray Vaughan’s same-titled 1983 album.

• Toast, 8 p.m. April 3. The act pays tribute to rock band Bread.

• Get the Led Out, 8 p.m. April 4 and 5. The group performs the music of English rock band Led Zeppelin.

• Robert Cray Band, 8 p.m. April 6. Born in Columbus, Georgia, and raised in Washington, Cray released the first of his 20 studio albums in 1980. The blues singer-guitarist’s fourth album, 1986’s “Strong Persuader,” spawned the hit single “Smoking Gun.” Cray released his most recent album, “That’s What I Heard,” in 2020. Cray and his band have played with acts such as Albert Collins and Muddy Waters and John Lee Hooker.

• Railroad Earth, 8 p.m. April 10. The bluegrass band, formed in 2001 in New Jersey, released its seventh full-length album, “All For the Song,” in 2022.

• The McCartney Years, 7 p.m. March 28. The act performs the music of singer-songwriter Paul McCartney.

• The Glimmer Twins, 8 p.m. March 29. The act, paying tribute to English rock band The Rolling Stones, features Keith Call as Mick Jagger and Bernie Bollendorf as Keith Richards.

• The Steepwater Band, 8 p.m. April 4. Formed in 1998 in Chicago, the blues-rock group released its eighth studio album “Re-Turn of the Wheel” in 2022.

• Soulshine, 8 p.m. April 5. The group performs the music of rock group Allman Brothers Band. Soulshine takes its name from the song of the same name, released on Allman Brothers Band’s 1994 album “Where It All Begins.”

• Stillhouse Junkies, 6:30 p.m. April 6. Formed in Colorado in 2017, the roots trio has released albums such as 2020’s “Calamity” and 2022’s “Small Towns.”

• April Gallery Opening Reception: Tamaqua Area High School Students, 6 p.m. April 3. The exhibit, on display until April 25, will feature work by students of the Tamaqua school. The latter hosts a variety of 2D and 3D arts, photography and graphic arts courses.

• Steve Sandberg Trio, 7 p.m. April 4. Sandberg, a three-time Emmy-nominated pianist/composer, merges classical music, world music and jazz with improvisation. He has played with artists such as Bebel Gilberto, David Byrne, Dizzie Gillespie and Mario Bauza.

• Il Volo, 8 p.m. March 28. The Italian operatic pop trio, which released its self-titled debut album in 2010, has toured with Barbra Streisand, recorded with Plácido Domingo and won the 2015 Sanremo Festival. Il Volo released its eighth studio set, “Ad Astra,” in 2024.

• The Four Phantoms, 8 p.m. March 29. The show, under the music direction of Ryan Shirar, features actor-singers who have performed as The Phantom in Andrew Lloyd Weber‘s musical “The Phantom of the Opera.” The lineup consists of Brent Barrett, John Cudia, Franc D’Ambrosio and Ciarán Sheehan, with guest Kaley Ann Voorhees as Christine.

• Peter Frampton, 8 p.m. April 3. Born in England, Frampton was a member of Herd and Humble Pie before releasing his debut solo album “Wind of Change” in 1972. The singer-guitarist’s hits include “Show Me the Way,” “Baby I Love Your Way” and “Do You Feel Like We Do,” from 1976 live set “Frampton Comes Alive,” and 1977 single “I’m in You.” Frampton released his 18th studio set, “Frampton Forgets the Words,” in 2021.

• “What the World Needs Now: The Burt Bacharach Songbook,” 8 p.m. April 4. Rock musicians Todd Rundgren and fall 2021 “The Voice” runner-up Wendy Moten will perform Bacharach’s hits under the musical direction of Rob Shirakbari.

• Chippendales, 8 p.m. April 5. The award-winning male revue, established in 1979, tours and has a residency in Las Vegas. Chippendales has headquarters in New York, with offices in Las Vegas and London.

• Colin Mochrie and Brad Sherwood, 7:30 p.m. March 29. The “Whose Line is it Anyway?” duo transforms audience suggestions into its improv show.

• “Girls Night: The Musical,” 3 p.m. March 30. The Louise Roche show, which made its off-Broadway debut in 2009, focuses on female friends visiting their past, celebrating their present and looking to the future on a wild night out.

• Joanne Shaw Taylor, 8 p.m. April 1. Eurythmics’ Dave Stewart discovered the English blues singer/guitarist in the early 2000s, when she was 16. Taylor released debut album “White Sugar” in 2009, with ninth studio set “Heavy Soul” out in 2024.

• “Mean Girls,” 7:30 p.m. April 4, 2 and 7:30 p.m. April 5. A naïve newbie falls prey to a trio of lionized frenemies in the rock musical, based on the same-titled 2004 film. “Mean Girls” features a book by Tina Fey, lyrics by Nell Benjamin and music by Jeff Richmond.

• 90s Rockfest, 8 p.m. March 28. Lounge Fly, Disciple of the Garden and Hashpipe will perform the music of Stone Temple Pilots, Chris Cornell and Weezer, respectively.

• An Evening with Justin Furstenfeld, 8 p.m. March 29. The musician, lead singer of rock band Blue October, will perform acoustic version of Blue October hits. Furstenfeld has two solo and 13 Blue October studio albums to his credit.

• Box of Rain, 8 p.m. April 5. The act performs 1968-1974 music of rock band the Grateful Dead.
