Youth Ministry
Our Lady Queen of Peace Church, Brodheadsville, will host its youth ministry for seventh and eighth graders from 5:30 to 6:45 tonight.
Lenten services
• Effort UMC holds its weekly Lenten services at 7 p.m. Wednesdays through April 9.
In addition, the church hosts a Lenten Bible Study which begins at 6 p.m. after fellowship, and soup and salad from 5:30-6 p.m.
• The Rev. Robert Simon’s Lenten series at Our Lady Queen of Peace are held Wednesdays at 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. through April 9.
The morning option includes coffee and a program; the 6 p.m. time includes dinner and a program.
• St. Matthew’s, Kunkletown, is participating in a joint Lenten services at 7 p.m. tonight at Living Hope Light House at 705 Third St., Palmerton, and on April 2 at Bethany EC Church at 222 North St., Lehighton.
Missions meal
Our Lady Queen of Peace Church is holding its West End Mission Meal at 4:30 p.m. Thursday.
Fish dinners
Fried or baked fish dinners are available at Our Lady Queen of Peace Church from 5-7 p.m. Friday in McCawley Hall. There is a cost.
Trout season
The Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission has begun stocking trout in 691 streams and 130 lakes open to public angling beginning Monday, prepping for the statewide Mentored Youth Trout Day on Saturday and statewide opening day of trout season on April 5.
Pray the rosary
Our Lady Queen of Peace Church invites people to join the congregation every Saturday at 4:20 p.m. before the 5 p.m. Mass, and Sunday at 7:20 a.m. before the 8 a.m. Mass to pray the rosary.
Healing service
Salem-St. Paul Church, Kresgeville, is holding a healing service at both at the 8:30 and 10:30 a.m. worship service on Sunday.
At 2 p.m., the church will visit the Getz Personal Care Home in Jonas and offer Holy Communion.
Easter egg hunts
• Zion Lutheran Church, Brodheadsville, is hosting a free community Easter egg hunt at 1 p.m. Sunday for youngsters up to grade 5.
• The West End Memorial American Legion Post 927, Gilbert, is hosting a breakfast with the Easter Bunny on April 5, with a rain date of April 12, from 10 a.m.-noon. It includes a free egg hunt and photos with the Easter Bunny with the purchase of tickets for the event for children ages 3 and up. Children 2 and under are free.
The egg hunt begins at 1 p.m.
Men’s breakfast
On Saturday, Our Lady Queen of Peace Church is again holding a Men’s Breakfast after the 8 a.m. service.
Dinner pickup
Those folks who ordered lasagna dinners at Effort UMC are reminded that pickup is set for after each service this Sunday. The services are at 8:30 and 11 a.m.
Cleanup time
The Buena Vista Cemetery, Brodheadsville, directors remind people that all Christmas decorations in the cemetery must be removed by Monday.
If that is not done, staff will remove them to make room for Easter decorations.
Prayer Shawl
Effort UMC’s Prayer Shawl group will meet from 10:30 a.m.-1 p.m. Tuesday. Newcomers are welcome.
Krispy Kreme pickup
Folks who ordered Krispy Kreme treats from the Laymen’s Fellowship at St. Matthew’s Church in Kunkletown are reminded that pickup is set for Wednesday.
Deadline nears
Effort Women’s Group is seeking applicants for this year’s scholarship program for the church’s young people who will be entering a college or university in the fall. Applications and criteria can be obtained by emailing Jan Decker at eumc103@ptd.net or calling her at 570-629-1890, with all applications and related documents being returned to Michelle Wichman by April 1.
Seed sowers sale
Orders for Easter Flowers can be placed at Salem-St. Paul Lutheran Church by April 3, for pickup at the church in Kresgeville from 2-4 p.m. April 12.
Offered are hyacinths, tulips, mini-daffodils, white lilies, colored Asiatic lilies and more.

Auction ahead
On Saturday, April 5, Effort UMC will hold its Missions Outreach Auction, beginning at 6 p.m.
Handmade items, themed baskets, gift certificates, homemade dinners are among items up for bid.
Pizza sale ahead
St. John’s Lutheran Church, Effort, is holding a “Take & Bake” pizza sale for 12-inch pies until April 6.
Call the church at 570-629-4309 or 610-739-6629 and leave a clear message with the order and for how many pies and ask for cost per pie.
Leave your phone number in case there is a question. Pies will be ready to take home and bake or can be frozen.
Pick up and pay at church (cash only) at 164 Merwinsburg Road, Effort, between 4-5 p.m. April 11.
ID theft seminar
Rep. Jack Rader has announced a seminar on identity theft at 6 p.m. April 10 at the Blakesee Community Center, 5669 Route 115, Blakeslee.
The speaker will be David Shallcross, director of Senior Protection from the Pennsylvania Office of Attorney General.

Polk Fire Company
Tickets are now available from the Polk Volunteer Fire Company for its gun bingo on April 12 and its crossbow raffle on the same day.
There will be no April breakfast.

Monroe Chapter No. 99 Order of the Eastern Star will hold its stated meeting at 7 p.m. April 23 at the Rimrock Masonic Center in Stroudsburg.
The meeting will include regular business and the election of officers. A social time will follow.
