Local Roundup: Results from March 25

Tamaqua posted wins in both baseball and softball action on Tuesday, while a pair of Pleasant Valley lacrosse players reached milestones.

The Blue Raiders defeated Pottsville in both games, while the Bears’ Devon Bush reached 300 career goals and Rylee Rath tallied her 300th-career point.

BASEBALL

Jim Thorpe-Pen Argyl

After trailing 3-0 in the first, Jim Thorpe rallied with three runs in each of the fourth and fifth innings to comeback and pull away from Pen Argyl with a 10-3 Colonial League victory.

Cole Lazorick went 3-for-3 with a double, two walks, four RBIs, and a run scored for the Olympians. Brody Schrantz also chipped in with two RBIs on two hits, while Michael Antignani reached base in all four of his at basts with three walks, a hit, and two RBIs.

After allowing three runs in the first, Nick Schwartz settled in and shut down the Green Knights the rest of the way for the complete-game win.

Cody Snyder drove in four runs on four hits to lead Lehighton past Wilson 12-5 in Colonial League play.

Snyder opened the scoring in the first for the Indians, who added three more runs in the third on a Cole Dietz RBI single, and an Aiden Solt two-run double.

Jake Lewis was one out away from a complete game, giving up five runs on eight hits with five strikeouts. Braden Benevides went 3-for-4 with three RBIs for the Warriors.

Notre Dame posted a 3-1 victory over Northern Lehigh in Colonial League action.

The Crusaders struck early with a two-run single in the first from Austin Casal, and an RBI single from Clemente Cintron in the second.

Cintron did the rest of the work as he went the distance with six strikeouts and held the Bulldogs to only one run on a Corey Daubert sac fly.

Connor Simms did his part for the Bulldogs, pitching a full six innings with three strikeouts and only allowing two earned runs.

Palmerton scored all of its runs the second inning in a dominating 24-4 win over Moravian Academy in Colonial League play.

The Bombers received contributions from their entire lineup, including three RBIs each from Jason Carrelli and AJ Borger, two RBIs from Cameron Pengelly and Luke Matsko, and an RBI from eight other batters.

Northwestern jumped out to an 8-0 lead after the third inning and never looked back en route to an 11-4 win over Bangor in Colonial League action.

Cannon Fitch finished 2-for-3 with two walks and three RBIs for the Tigers, including a two-run double in the second.

Cole Dynda and Nolan Fitzgerald also chipped in two RBIs each for Northwestern.

Dynda went the distance on the bump, holding the Slaters to only one earned run and striking out six.

Tamaqua outlasted Pottsville for a 2-1 victory in Schuylkill League competition.

Cooper Ansbach was a one-man show for the Raiders as he knocked in both runs and tossed 5.2 shutout innings with six strikeouts.

Luke Schane did his job for the Tide, pitching a full six innings, while Quincy Clews cut the Raider lead to one in the seventh. Tamaqua’s Jake Yenser came on in relief to preserve the win over Pottsville, which left 12 runners on base.

Marian-Williams Valley

After trailing 3-1 through five innings, Williams Valley scored two runs in the sixth to tie the game and walked it off in the seventh on an error to defeat Marian 4-3 in Schuylkill League action.

The Colts’ three runs all came in the second on a Noah Bauder RBI ground out, and a two-run single from Brayden Grant.

After three scoreless innings, the Vikings took advantage of a Marian passed ball to tie the game and an error to win the contest.

Cole Defrancisco went 5.2 innings for the Colts, allowing only one earned run on three hits with three strikeouts, while Mason Bowser threw three scoreless innings for the Vikings with three strikeouts in relief.

Evan Setlock edged out Danny Wehr in a classic pitcher’s duel as Blue Mountain defeated Panther Valley 3-0 in Schuylkill League competition.

The Eagles broke through in the first on a passed ball and an RBI single from Riely Sebastian, who also added another RBI in the third.

Wehr settled in and held the Eagles off the board the rest of the way, but the Panthers were unable to solve Setlock, who finished with a three-hit shutout and seven strikeouts.

Landon Monaghan threw a three-inning no-hitter as Shenandoah Valley shut out Weatherly 19-0 in Schuylkill League play.

Monaghan also chipped in offensively for the Blue Devils, going 3-for-4 with a team-high four RBIs.

The Devils received an additional two RBIs from both John Burke and Jeremy Thomas.

Pen Argyl posted four first-inning runs, and the Green Knights cruised to a five-inning, 10-0, one-hit shutout over Jim Thorpe.

Abby Scherer belted a three-run homer, and Angie Beltran had a two-run single for Pen Argyl. Madcacyn Rivera added two hits.

Ryan Confer had the lone hit for the Olympians.

Morgan Myers wrapped three hits and two RBIs, but it wasn’t enough for Lehighton in its 13-10 Colonial League slugfest loss to Wilson.

Bryan Mriss added three RBIs, and Makayla Scott added two hits and two RBIs for Lehighton, which remains winless. Ava Trach also had two hits.

Sabrena Espinosa had two hits and three RBIs for Wilson.

Williams Valley jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first, and plated four more in the fourth. Quin Smeltz and Ally Underkoffler each had two hits and RBIs apiece for the Vikings.

Gracie Sendatch, Emily Upanavage, Deanna Pugh and Malina Lechter all collected a hit for Marian.

Olivia Marasco and Ava Sahaida each had two hits and two RBIs, while Rachel Rosenlund knocked in three runs for Weatherly.

Rebecca Caldwell, who had two hits, went the distance for the Wreckers, allowing three hits and striking out seven.

Naomi Knitter tossed a complete game four-hitter, recording seven strikeouts.

Emily Szczepanski, Natalie Lilly and Sydney Ryan all had three hits to lead Notre Dame Green Pond to a convincing 8-1 Colonial League win over Northern Lehigh at Patriot’s Park in Allentown.

Rachel Fisher limited Northern Lehigh to three hits, and struck out seven.

Skylear Horack, Marisa Maehrer and Emily Gad all had a hit for the Bulldogs, while Adriana Danyluk had their lone RBI.

The Eagles’ Addyson Fishburn fulfilled her duties as leadoff hitter, as she recorded three singles, three runs scored and two RBIs.

Avery Hudak and Anna Borden both chipped in multiple hits. Hudak finished with two singles, two runs and two RBIs, while Borden posted a single, triple, two runs and two RBIs.

Brooklyn Mika spoiled the Eagles’ Chloe Brown and Abigail Blehm’s combined bid for a perfect game, as she reached base on a walk in the top of the third inning.

Devon Bush scored her 300th-career goal as part of her six-goal barrage to lead Pleasant Valley to a 15-4 rout of Nazareth in an Eastern Pennsylvania Conference battle of unbeaten teams.

Rylee Rath gained her 300th-career point during her six-point game, as she tallied three goals and three assists. Morgan Ryals also scored three goals, while Abygail Borger recorded six saves for the Bears.

Mia Pulliam had four goals for Nazareth.

Northwestern-Liberty

Northwestern battled throughout the game, but the Tigers dropped a 13-12 overtime decision to Liberty in independent play.

Olivia Costa scored a team-high five goals and Cara Thomas recorded three for Northwestern.

The Tigers’ Mykaela Yanders, Ella Collins, Olivia Fagan and Amanda Breidinger all netted one goal apiece.

Lehighton-Bangor

Lehighton remained undefeated in Colonial League play, as the Indians posted a 3-2 win over Bangor.

Bayto Cokrlija, Bekim Cokrlija and Isaac Carpenter helped seal the deal, as the Indian trio swept singles play in straight sets.
