Rescue personnel from Delano and Ryan townships and McAdoo borough helped state police find a woman in the woods off Interstate 81 in Delano Township after police were called to the area at 6:25 a.m. March 22.
State police at the Frackville barracks said the report initially indicated a vehicle (a 2018 Kia Sorento) was backed into the woods on Grier Avenue between the interstate and a horseshoe curve. Troopers arrived at the scene to find the vehicle backed into trees, causing damage to its rear.
Upon further investigation, police said it was learned the driver of the vehicle could be suffering from a medical episode and was walking in the woods. They said state police aviation personnel responded and located her in thick bushes about 225 yards from the vehicle.
Aviation personnel guided troopers into the woods where they located the woman and brought her out of the woods to a waiting ambulance. She was transported by emergency services personnel to a local hospital and the vehicle was towed from the scene.
