Indian Mountain Lake’s three lakes are stocked and ready for the opening of fishing season.
Dave Skvoretz, chair of the lakes and fishing committee, said, “We’re stocking three of our lakes with trout for opening day with the community’s help. People love fishing in the community.”
Big Brown Lake Hatchery brought the truck filled with fish to Fishing Lake, Twin Lake and Boulder Lake, where community members young and old gathered to lend a hand.
Residents carefully carried bucket by bucket of the 475 pounds of trout from the truck to the water. Four kinds of trout were included; rainbow, brook, brown and golden rainbow, which had a beautiful orangish color.
It was a learning experience in many ways for some of the little ones.
Eleven-year-old Lucas Bautitsa said, “We’re putting the fish in the lake so that they’re safe and won’t get eaten.”
Braelynn Donnelly, 4, excitedly noted while dumping the fish in the lake, “Oh, they’re going to their new home to find a shed for them to sleep in.”
No fishing is permitted until April 5, the opening day of trout season, as the fish need to acclimate to the water.
