Franklin Township supervisors last week agreed to allocate the number of equivalent dwelling units in the township.
Equivalent dwelling units are units of measure that standardize all land use categories, and are the estimated average residential usage of water and sewer per unit.
The agreement came at the behest of newly seated Supervisor Jason Frey, who soon after his appointment was named board chairman.
“I think we need to address that immediately,” Frey said. “I think something needs to happen sooner than later.”
However, township solicitor Tom Nanovic told Frey he didn’t understand why this was an emergency.
“I think we need to build up our tax base,” Frey said. “I just feel it needs to happen sooner than later.”
Frey outlined his suggestion for how the township should divide its 68.5 EDUs.
“I think it needs to be done today,” he said. “I think it’s been going on for too long.”
Frey then proposed that of the 68.5 EDUs, 40 be allocated to the township’s C1 and C2 districts; 20 to industrial; and 8.5 to residential and agricultural.
Supervisor Fred Kemmerer Jr. said he was good with the allocations but that he just wanted to make sure of the legality of it.
Afterward, the board agreed to hold a special meeting sometime during the week of April 7-11 to discuss EDUs.
