Lehigh Township Volunteer Fire Company was dispatched to a Mulch fire in the 300 block of Cherryville Road, Lehigh Township just before 7 a.m. Saturday.
Second Assistant Chief Brian Krische reported, “It was just a maze of mulch, wood chips, tree logs and debris. It is anywhere from 6 feet to 20 feet deep at places. The area is on a 60-degree slope which made it really hard to access.
“The fire really flared up again just before 11 a.m. There was 10 fire companies that were called for assistance. We had five tankers running continuously from the Aspen Road Quarry, then to the engines which feed the master stream on the ladder truck and hand lines and just kept putting water on the fire. We put at least 150,00 gallons on the fire just today.” Krische said.
“Sunday we made good progress by just putting more water on the fire.”
A local excavating company came to look at the area.
“It was to unsafe for the equipment to be used to dig down beyond the debris to gain access to the fire. There was two firefighters stationed at the fire scene for overnight,” Krische said.
