The Marian baseball team earned its first win of the season in dramatic fashion Saturday, while the Pleasant Valley tennis squad continued its run of recent success.

BASEBALL

MMI-Marian

Cole Jordan’s walk-off single in the bottom of the ninth inning lifted Marian to an 8-7, non-league win over MMI Prep.

Cole Defrancisco knocked in two runs for the Colts, who had 11 hits. Leadoff hitter Noah Bauder was 3-for-5, while Alex Diaz and Rocco Griguoli each collected two hits, with Griguoli launching a solo home run and Diaz ripping a double in addition to stealing home.

Jordan also earned the win for Marian, giving up one hit and no runs over three and two-thirds innings of relief, striking out six and walking two.

Josh Witner and Tommy Horvat each had two hits for MMI, which had five extra base hits. Nick Pantages and Caleb Skuba each drove in two runs. Adam Frask also tripled and scored once.

Pleasant Valley-Bangor

Pleasant Valley recorded its fourth straight win, picking up a 7-0 non-league victory over Bangor.

John Hargrave, Isaac Klein and Noah Dolan swept singles play for the Bears, while the teams of Roman Steuer and Jens Hansen, Logan Krock and Liam Angell, Noah Conklin and Zach Prator, Hayden Byrnes and Hansen also swept doubles play.
