A Palmerton man has waived charges after resisting arrest when police tried to pick him up on a bench warrant.
Zachery Greene, 32, had a preliminary hearing Wednesday before District Judge William J. Kissner of Palmerton. According to the affidavit of probable cause filed by officer Shawn Leadbetter of the Palmerton Borough Police Department:
At 1:06 p.m. Feb. 6, Leadbetter received information that Greene was standing outside of the Sunoco Gas Station in the 500 block of Delaware Avenue.
Upon arrival, Leadbetter observed a man wearing a green jacket and blue jeans matching Greene’s description.
As Greene observed Leadbetter, he started walking through the parking lot toward the rear of the Rite Aid at Sixth Street and Delaware Avenue, then ran into Alley F east bound in the 600 block, so Leadbetter ran after him while officer Trevin Green of the Palmerton Borough Police Department attempted to cut Greene off with his patrol vehicle.
Leadbetter ran through Alley F, the Subway, and J&J Coins parking lot and the Convenient Food Mart parking lot and was able to catch up to Greene as Greene entered the front door of the Convenient Food Mart.
Police had to use force to restrain him.
Greene faces charges of flight to avoid apprehension, and resisting arrest. Court records show he is facing charges of harassment, simple assault and strangulation stemming from an incident on Dec. 9, 2024.
