March 22, 2014 — Seven area track and field athletes capture titles in the respective events at the Pirate Invitational at Palisades. Four members of the Jim Thorpe team and three from Tamaqua leave with gold medals — all of them coming in field events. The Olympians’ Rayan Green wins the high jump, while teammate Zach Zucatti claims the javelin. Jacob Wenzel takes the shot put, and Jason Sylvester ends first in the discus. For the Blue Raiders, winners include Rebecca Minehan in the pole vault, Vanessa Solt in the discus, and Paige Demetriades in the javelin.
