Local roundup: Results from March 19

Northwestern claimed victories over Northern Lehigh in both baseball and softball action on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, the Lehighton baseball and tennis teams, along with the Palmerton softball and tennis squads, also posted wins.

Elsewhere, Kailyn Getz hurled a three-inning perfect game in the Pleasant Valley softball team’s victory.

BASEBALL

Lehighton-Palmerton

Cole Dietz wrapped three hits and knocked in four runs to lead Lehighton to a 15-6 rout of Palmerton in the Colonial League opener for both teams.

Dietz also picked up the victory, allowing one run over four innings.

John Light added four hits and two RBIs, and Cody Snyder smacked a two-run homer for the Indians.

Luke Matsko went four-for-four. Mason George collected two hits and three RBIs. A.J. Borger had two hits and two RBIs for the Blue Bombers.

Northwestern kept its impressive start going with a 11-2 rout over Northern Lehigh in Colonial League action.

The Tigers opened the season with a 9-4 victory over Blue Mountain Tuesday. Against the Bulldogs, Cannon Fitch had three hits and three RBIs, while Cole Dynda added two hits and two RBIs.

Parker Schaffer had a pair of hits for Northern Lehigh.

Pleasant Valley-PM East

Pocono Mountain East turned back Pleasant Valley’s seventh-inning rally to claim a 10-9 Eastern Pennsylvania Conference win.

After trailing 10-2 heading into the final inning of play, the Bears staged an incredible comeback, scoring seven runs to pull within one.

Pleasant Valley started the rally by taking advantage of three Cardinals’ miscues to score three runs, before Ty Borger and Owen Long posted RBI singles to score two more runs. Kole Henry capped the scoring with a two-run double.

Henry finished with a single, double and scored a run.

Notre Dame Green Pond erupted for five runs in the fourth inning to claim a 9-4 victory over Jim Thorpe in Colonial League play.

Clemente Cintron, who gave up three runs and six hits for the victory, singled in two runs in the fifth to give the Crusaders a commanding 8-2 advantage. Austin Casal had two hits and two RBIs for the winners.

Nikolas Schwartz, who hurled the first three innings for the Olympians, had two hits and an RBI. Brady Schrantz and Noah Pastor each drove in a run for Jim Thorpe.

Hailey Barry pitched a complete-game two-hitter, and struck out six to pace Palmerton to a 7-0 Colonial League victory over Lehighton.

Olivia Kalman had two hits and two RBIs apiece, and Mikayla Pengelly stole three bases for the Blue Bombers, who took control of the game with a five-run fifth inning.

Aliyah Nothstein tossed four innings for the Indians.

Nico Conahan and Ceanna Gormley each collected two hits and two RBIs apiece to help Tamaqua to a 9-4 victory over Marian.

Tamaqua opened the game with a five-run third inning behind Gormley’s two-run double. Peyton Faust, Leah Crowley and Megan Linkhorst each added two hits in the Raiders’ attack.

Gracie Sendatch had two RBIs for Marian.

Northwestern’s Emma Freeman fired a two-hitter and notched 12 strikeouts to lead the Tigers to a 7-0 Colonial League win over Northern Lehigh.

Freeman, who collected her 300th-career strikeout in the win, also had two hits, while Abby Dunstan cracked a home run among her two hits and added three RBIs.

Adalyn Reichard added two hits for Northwestern.

Kailyn Getz was perfect as Pleasant Valley only needed three innings to secure a 15-0 Eastern Pennsylvania Conference victory over visiting East Stroudsburg North.

Getz earned the win in the circle, finishing with eight strikeouts. She did not allow a walk, run or hit.

Brianca Pridham recorded four RBIs on three hits for the Bears as she finished with two singles, a triple and three runs scored.

Getz (single, triple), Jovie Valenzuela (two singles) and Lydia Borger (two singles) had multiple hits in the win.

Weatherly opened its season in style as the Wreckers cruised to an 18-3 non-league win over visiting Columbia-Montour AVTS.

Molly Kislan recorded two singles, scored three times and recorded three RBIs. Abby Teodorescu connected for a triple in her second at-bat in the bottom of the first inning. She also scored two runs and had three RBIs.

Leadoff hitter Abby Weston walked twice and scored three times.

Hannah Zacharias had the lone hit for the Olympians.

Bayto and Bekim Cokrlija and Isaac Carpenter swept singles play, while the teams of Anna Howland and Jed Cordes and Allie Conrad and Chase Lobasso earned doubles victories.

Palmerton posted its first win of the season, claiming a hard-fought 3-2 Colonial League victory over Bangor.

Colton Ruzicka came through with a clutch win at No. 2 singles for the Bombers, as the junior claimed a 6-4, 5-7, 6-3 win over Quentin Lenak.

The duo of Hadlee Lake and Kevin O’Neill rallied for a 2-6. 8-6, 6-3 win in the No. 1 doubles match against Chayse Strone and Dylan Arayjo.

Parkland swept Pleasant Valley in an Eastern Pennsylvania Conference meet.

The Trojans posted a 128.50-21.50 win in the boys meet, and recorded a 141-9 victory in the girls competition.

Demetrius Outten placed first in the 300 hurdles for the Bears in the boys meet, while the 1600 relay team of Justin Delgado, Isaiah Montgomery, James Morton, Quinn Kauffman also placed first.

Danielle Boland won the 1600 for Pleasant Valley in the girls meet.
