Zion Lutheran, Brodheadsville, is holding its free drive-thru dinner at 5 p.m. today. It is a hot meal.
Lenten services
• Our Lady Queen of Peace Church, Brodheadsville, is holding its Lenten service on Wednesdays in McCawley Hall. The theme is exploring the Great Adventure Story through the Gospel of Luke with the Rev. Robert Simon.
Each Wednesday there are two service times through the end of Lent: 10 a.m.-noon, with coffee and treats, or 6-8 p.m. with dinner. The times are set through to and including April 9.
• Effort UMC, has its Lenten services entitled “Surrender.” The topic tonight is: I Surrender ... My Worship.
A Lenten study is set for 5:30 p.m., and the Wednesday evening service is at 7 p.m. Those services continue through April 9.
• Salem-St. Paul Lutheran, Kresgeville, is holding a short worship with Bible study at 1 p.m. based on peace. Participants are asked to bring something that gives each one peace.
• St. Matthew’s EEC, Kunkletown, is holding its Lenten services at 7 p.m. each week. For location, contact the church at 610-381-2442.
Eldred supervisors
The Eldred Township Board of Supervisors is slated to meet at 7 p.m. today at the Municipal Building, 490 Kunkletown Road.
Auxiliary meeting
The West End Memorial Legion Auxiliary will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Legion 927 Post Hall on Route 209 in Gilbert.
Fish dinner
Our Lady Queen of Peace Church is hosting a fried or baked fish dinner from 5-7 p.m. Friday in McCawley Hall.
Lasagna orders due
Single servings of lasagna dinner orders are being offered by Effort UMC through Sunday. Takeout only on March 30 after each service.
All meals will be precooked but will be refrigerated for pickup. For more information, contact the church office at 570-629-1890.
AA meetings
McMichaels UMC and Zion Lutheran in Brodheadsville both sponsor Alcoholics Anonymous meetings.

Krispy Kreme sale
Laymen’s Fellowship at St. Matthew’s Church in Kunkletown is hosting a Krispy Kreme fundraiser through Monday. Pickup is set for April 2.
Bingo time
Monday at 6:30 p.m. is another community bingo at American Legion Post 927. It begins with card sales. First call begins at 7 p.m.
PVEN numbers
February statistics for the Pleasant Valley Ecumenical Networks’s outreach to those in need include: 870 people served from 293 families from the Food Pantry; 184 individuals helped via the Clothing Closet; 103 families served via the Diaper Pantry; and 220 individuals served via the Menstrual Hygiene Pantry.
The staff, many just volunteers, will be having a semiannual yard sale from 8 a.m.-2 p.m. April 26.
The PVEN Snack Shed will be featured, with drinks and goodies available for purchase.
The event will take place in the upper area next to Route 209.
Current needs are cereal, peanut butter and jelly, canned chicken and tuna, and pasta and pasta sauce for the Food Pantry; deodorant, cleaning products, blankets/comforters, sheets and towels, as well as Easter basket fillers for the Clothing Closet; baby formula and baby food, bladder protection or pads, adult sizes pull-ups and bed protector pads for the Diaper Pantry.
Three B’s program
Kettle Creek Environmental Education Center is hosting “Bugs, Bats and Bees” led by Kendra Collins for her Gold Award in Scouts.
Youths ages 10-15 are invited to join her in learning about bugs, bats and bees on Saturday. Fun, hands-on learning and crafts will help youth recognize invasive and helpful bugs and bees in their natural environment.
In addition, participants can make a bat craft, create a flower bomb and use ultraviolet lights to decide if bugs should be saved or squashed. And, participants can find out why bats are declining and what can be done to save them.
The program is free, but registration is required. There is a limit of 30. Call 570-629-3061.
Polk meeting
A regular meeting of the Polk Township supervisors is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Monday at the municipal building in Kresgeville.

The Chestnuthill Senior Center offers classes in which participants can watch and follow online exercise videos.

Scholarship info
The Effort Women’s Group is seeking applicants for this year’s scholarship program. It is open to Effort UMC’s young people who will be entering a college or university in the fall.

Fish news 2025
The Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission will begin stocking trout in 691 streams and 130 lakes open to public angling beginning Monday, prepping for the statewide Mentored Youth Trout Day on March 29 and statewide opening day of trout season on April 5.
Auction ahead
Effort UMC has scheduled its Missions Outreach Auction for April 5, beginning at 6 p.m.
Preview of items begins at 5 p.m.
Items for the auction are being accepted. They will be on display right outside of the church office.
People are asked to place a “value” on what they donate. All items should be clean and in good condition.
Tax help
The Rotary Foundation of the Greater Poconos will operate this year’s Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program (Rotary-GP VITA), providing free income tax return preparation to Monroe and Pike County residents. The program, sponsored by the RFGP, assists individuals earning up to $70,000 per year. Volunteers are certified by the IRS. Representatives from elected officials’ offices will be present some days to assist with 2024 Property Tax/Rent Rebate applications (PA-1000). Rotary-GP VITA will operate at five sites in Monroe County from 9:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. now through April 15.

Blooming Easter
Salem-St. Paul Lutheran Church, Kresgeville, is hosting a Blooming Easter Flower Sale. Flowers include hyacinths, tulips, miniature daffodils, hyacinths, tulips, single stem white lilies.

Heat assistance
April 4 is the deadline to apply for assistance from the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program.
LIHEAP helps individuals and families pay their heating bills through home heating energy assistance grants.
The income eligibility guidelines are set for 150% of a federal poverty income level.
Residents can apply for LIHEAP online at www.pa.gov/agencies/dhs.html.
Cold weather help
The Monroe County Weatherization Program is available for people who live in a single residential home. The income limits are $30,120 (as of January 2024) for one person; for each additional household member add $10,760.
The free government-funded weatherization services are available to both owner-occupants and renters.
