March 19, 1977 — Northwestern’s Dan Blose wins the PIAA Class 2A 185-pound wrestling championship by gaining a 6-3 decision over Huntingdon’s Rich Brown in the finals. Blose, who nearly ended his tournament run a day earlier due to a painful knee injury, fights on to capture the title. After receiving treatment from an Easton chiropractor, he continues. He reaches the finals with a 1:16 pin in the semifinals. Against Brown, Blose falls behind 2-0 but gets an escape, a reversal and three back points to forge ahead and earn gold. Blose’s teammate Chris Wentz rebounds from a semifinal loss to gain a wild 24-17 victory and finish third at 112.
