Local Roundup: Results from March 18

Lehighton and Northern Lehigh both posted Colonial League track and field sweeps on Tuesday.

The Indians swept Jim Thorpe, while the Bulldogs defeated Salisbury.

TRACK

Lehighton-Jim Thorpe

Lehighton posted a sweep of Jim Thorpe in both team’s first-ever meet as members of the Colonial League.

The Indian girls registered a 121-28 win, while the boys earned a 98.5-51.5 victory.

Brielle Frable (800, 1600, 3200) and Lillian Klotz (110H, 300H, pole vault) both had three individual wins for Lehighton, while Lorah Thomas (shot put, discus) and Alexandra Feller (long, triple jump) each added a pair of firsts.

Owen Eckhart collected two firsts, taking both the long jump and high jump.

Salisbury-Northern Lehigh

In its Colonial League opener, Northern Lehigh swept visiting Salisbury.

The Bulldog boys posted a 90-58 win, while the Nolehi girls registered a 92-52 victory.

Christopher Frame (100, 200), Zaid Salih (800, 1600) and Cayden Anglin all had multiple firsts for the Bulldogs in the boys meet.

Katelynn Barthold (800, long jump), Emma Heil (1600, 3200) and Anna Trelease (shot put, discus) each collected a pair of individual wins in the girls competition.

Saucon Valley

Kailyn Getz struck out 11 and received plenty of offensive support as Pleasant Valley rolled to a 12-1 non-league win over Saucon Valley.

Getz allowed five hits and three walks in her six innings of work.

Allison Borger had the hot bat for PV, finishing with two singles, a triple, two runs scored and an RBI.

The Bears’ Renee Frable also chipped in with three hits — two doubles and a single — along with a run scored and an RBI, while Bella Altemose added a solo homer in the fifth inning.

Shenandoah Valley

Jim Thorpe opened the regular season in convincing fashion, rolling to a 22-0 non-league win over Shenandoah Valley.

Mara Levins had the big bat for the Olympians, collecting six RBIs on two hits. She connected for a three-run triple in the second and then added a three-run double in the fourth. She also scored four runs and walked once.

Thorpe’s Julianna Frantz chipped in with three singles, a run scored and an RBI.

Other offensive contributors included Hannah Zacharies (two singles, three runs), Ryah Confer (single, triple, three runs), Madison Lordi (single, three runs) and Isabella Lloyd (triple, three runs).

Winning pitcher Madison Schwartz ended with a four-inning no-hitter.

Blue Mtn.-N’western

Northwestern used a five-run fourth inning to take control and went on to post a 9-4 win over Blue Mountain in non-league action.

Devin Rex delivered a two-run double in the key frame.

Cole Dynda finished with three hits — one a double — and an RBI for the Tigers, while winning pitcher Josh Farber added a pair of hits and a run. Watson Church contributed a pair of hits and two runs, and Brady Zimmerman connected for a three-run homer.

East Stroudsburg North rallied for a 4-2 Eastern Pennsylvania Conference victory over Pleasant Valley in both team’s season opener.

After being shut out for five innings, the Timberwolves plated two runs in each of the sixth and seventh innings to pull out the win.

Cameron King had two hits and an RBI for the Bears, while Braydon Green added two hits — one a double — and a run.

PV also received a pair of hits from Kole Henry, and a run and RBI from Jacob George.
