Jury finds murder defendant guilty

A Northampton County jury has convicted an Easton man of first-degree murder and related charges for the 2018 killing of 18-year-old Tyrell Holmes.

The announcement was mas made by state Attorney General Dave Sunday, whose office prosecuted the case.

Jurors delivered their verdict Thursday after seven days of testimony about Holmes’ death. He was found near a dumpster outside an apartment complex.

Investigators determined he had been stabbed and set on fire while still alive.

At the time of the killing, Alkiohn Dunkins, now 26, and his codefendants belonged to a gang whose members called themselves “Money Rules Everything.”

“This violent criminal organization has terrorized the people of the Lehigh Valley for far too long,” Sunday said. “This verdict removes one of its members from the streets so he can no longer victimize others.

“My heart goes out to the Holmes family for their loss, and I hope this verdict brings them some measure of healing. I commend law enforcement and our team for their dedication in bringing this individual to justice.”

In April 2018, police found Holmes on fire with four stab wounds to the neck and torso. Investigators learned that Holmes and Dunkins had lived together for some time, and Holmes had expressed fear that Dunkins would kill him.

Phone records, surveillance video and other evidence led to the arrests of Dunkins; Miles Harper, 26, of Allentown; Yzire Jenkins-Rowe, 27, of Collegeville; and Zahmire Welcome, 26, of Whitehall.

Harper has pleaded guilty to aggravated arson and is awaiting sentencing. Cases against Jenkins-Rowe and Welcome are pending.

Dunkins will be sentenced on May 7.

The case was prosecuted by senior deputy attorneys general Christopher Phillips and Katherine McDermott.
