Dear Editor,

I absolutely loved Seth Borenstein’s piece “Even with U.S. shivering, Earth sets another heat record” from February 6. This kind of climate journalism is exactly what we need right now.

The notion that our planet is continuing to warm while we just got done bundling up to face brutal winds and ice cold temperatures probably sounds ludicrous to most people. Just writing it down feels preposterous. Yet, this is the reality of our situation.

Weather is immensely complex and is affected by numerous factors. However, it is all too clear that global warming is preventing those factors from properly stabilizing our planet, causing a plethora of unlikely phenomena including freezing temperatures.

We must continue to vote for politicians at ALL levels of government that will prioritize climate change. We must support legislation that will make our world a healthier and more sustainable place such as a carbon fee and dividend as well as permitting reform.

Give our members of Congress a call and express your concerns, frustration, or confusion. I am not a winter person at all. The last thing I want is more freezing winds and dangerous ice. Together, we can make a difference.
