State police at Frackville - crashes
State police at the Frackville barracks reported the following crashes:
• No one was injured when a car struck two deer on Route 309 (Claremont Avenue) in Hometown, Rush Township, at 4:34 p.m. Feb. 8.
Police said Tatyanna M. Alicea, 28, of Coaldale, was driving a 2015 Subaru Legacy northbound when the two deer ran into the road and were struck.
A 2-year-old girl was a passenger in a rear-facing child seat at the time, police said.
• Deborah S. Wheeler, 63, of New Ringgold, was uninjured in a one-vehicle crash at 7:39 a.m. Feb. 15 on Summer Valley Road, East Brunswick Township.
Police said she was driving a 2014 Chrysler southbound when she failed to negotiate a right curve. The vehicle left the road and hit a tree.
Wheeler was cited after the crash, according to police.
• Brandon Jordan, no age or address provided, was cited after a one-vehicle crash at 9:30 p.m. Feb. 16 on Valley Street in New Philadelphia, according to police. He was uninjured in the incident.
Police said he was driving a 2017 Kia westbound when he lost control of it on a curve. The vehicle left the road and came to rest on an embankment. It had heavy front-end damage and was towed from the scene.
• Police said ice that flew off a 2025 Freightliner that was southbound on Interstate 81 in Delano Township struck a 2021 International truck, smashing its windshield.
The incident occurred at 9:56 a.m. Feb. 17 at mile marker 133.
Police said the International was able to be driven from the scene.
• A second similar incident occurred at 7:21 p.m. Feb. 17 on Interstate 81 in Mahanoy Township.
Police said that flew off a 2025 Entegra RV hit the windshield of a 2023 Tesla Model Y. The vehicle was also able to be driven from the scene.
• Samantha L. Leiby, 40, of Tamaqua, was injured in a two-vehicle crash at 7:07 a.m. Feb. 16 on Pine Creek Drive, Rush Township.
Police said she was transported by personnel from the Ryan Township Emergency & Rescue Squad to the St. Luke’s Hospital, Miners Campus, Coaldale. They said the severity of her injuries is unknown.
Police did not provide the details of the vehicles or the crash, but said Leiby was driving a vehicle that was involved in the incident with a vehicle operated by Paul R. Long, 58, of Mahanoy City.
There were six juveniles who were passengers with Leiby; all were uninjured, according to police.
• No one was injured in a two-vehicle crash at 10:30 a.m. March 9 on Interstate 81 northbound in Kline Township.
Police did not provide the names of the drivers but said the crash occurred when a 2025 Jeep Cherokee merged onto the interstate without clearance and struck the front passenger side of a 2021 Lexus.
Police said the vehicles were driven from the scene.
