Washington Twp. man charged in shooting incident

Charges against a Washington Township for a March 6 shooting incident have been held for court.

According to the affidavit of probable cause filed by trooper Michael Hodgskin of the Pennsylvania State Police, Bethlehem barracks, in the case against Cristopher Rodriguez-Velez:

At 11:29 p.m. Thursday, Hodgskin was dispatched to a residence in the 6300 block of Lamar Court for the report of a shooting.

The residence to be a single mobile home located inside the Glencrest Mobile Home park. He approached the front door of the trailer and was eventually able to make contact with each of the five occupants.

Two of the occupants told Hodgskin that Rodriguez-Velez, 47, was inside the residence in a highly agitated state and was carrying on about a secret being withheld from him by his wife, who is the homeowner and was asleep in the back bedroom of the residence.

Rodriguez-Velez eventually retrieved two guns, one of which belonged to one of the occupants, and continued his ranting, pacing, and carrying on. He was also telling the occupants that he has no problem shooting them if they called the police.

Rodriguez-Velez then suddenly and abruptly entered the back bedroom and fired one round into the floor right next to the bed where his wife was sleeping. The gun used to fire this round was not the one that belonged to one of the occupants.

Another occupant texted for help, with two people saying they were scared for their lives.

One of the occupants said that as police arrived on scene Rodriguez-Velez hid the gun he used to fire the round in the back bedroom closet and returned the one occupant’s gun back to him. One of the occupants also believed that Rodriguez-Velez was “tweaking” on some kind of “dope.”

Rodriguez-Velez’s wife said she was sound asleep and had no idea what had happened until after the fact. She consented to search the residence where the gun, shell casing, and a charred metal pipe with suspected controlled substance residue were all recovered from the back bedroom of the residence.

Police determined that Rodriguez-Velez had previously been convicted of felony firearm related charges.

Rodriguez-Velez has been charged with four counts each of recklessly endangering another person, terroristic threats, and simple assault; and one count each of possession of firearm prohibited, discharge of a firearm into occupied structure, and use-possession of drug paraphernalia. One assault charge was dropped.

He was arraigned Friday and posted $100,000 bail.

A preliminary hearing has been scheduled for Thursday in Lehigh County Central Court.

Police said five people were inside the residence, and that no one was injured.
