NY man charged with providing false ID

A Bronx, New York, man faces multiple charges after allegedly providing false identification to police during a traffic stop in Kidder Township.

According to Patrolman Michael Nikityuk of the Kidder Township Police Department, Conrad Dasent, 52, was stopped at 7:40 p.m. on March 5.

Nikityuk was monitoring traffic on Route 940 near Interstate 80 when he saw a tan Chevrolet Suburban exit the turnpike with a paper tag instead of a required state registration plate. He initiated a stop on I-80 west near mile marker 275.

Dasent claimed he did not need a registration plate, asserting that a U.S. Department of Transportation tag was sufficient because his vehicle was personal property. When asked for identification and vehicle documents, he insisted he didn’t need them because he was “traveling.”

Dasent requested a police supervisor, and officers responded. He was informed that he was under official investigation and required to identify himself.

He then presented an ID card labeled “Sovereign Maroon Global Tribal Nation Territory” with the name “Dasent Conrad Romano” and the title of “motivational speaker.” The card listed his nationality as American and included the phrase “Travel + Void of Tax.”

A records check found no official record of Dasent. The vehicle’s VIN was traced to New York but had no registered owner or registration information. Officers also noted the vehicle lacked a state inspection sticker on the heavily tinted windshield.

Dasent repeatedly refused to exit the vehicle and was seen searching through a bag. Officers ordered him to stop and exit, but he continued rummaging. He was then removed from the vehicle and arrested.

At the state police duty station in Fern Ridge, Dasent refused to provide any identifying information, including his legal name, address, driver’s license, Social Security number, or proof of vehicle ownership. Upon returning to the Kidder Township Police Station, officers discovered he had a suspended New York driver’s license due to failure to answer a summons and child support violations.

Dasent faces multiple charges, including obstructing administration of law, false identification to law enforcement, driving without a license, driving with a suspended license, failure to register a vehicle, lack of insurance, and windshield obstruction.

He was jailed at Carbon County Correctional Facility on $25,000 bail, with a preliminary hearing set for March 19 before District Judge Joseph D. Homanko Sr. of Weatherly.
