March 13, 1979 — Beth Delay scores a game-high 22 points and Tamaqua uses a strong second quarter to help gain a 70-59 victory over Phoenixville to advance to the quarterfinal round of the PIAA Class 2A state playoffs. Delay tallies eight of her team’s first 15 points as the Blue Raiders end the opening quarter tied with the Phantoms. Cindy Miller hits for eight points in the second, while Delay and Boyer each add six as Tamaqua enjoys a 24-12 frame to take a double-digit lead. Phoenixville can only get as close as eight points the rest of the way. Miller adds 18 points for the winners, coached by Dennis Kormonick, while Barb Koch finishes with 14 and Boyer chips in with 12.
