Lansford man charged with assaulting woman

A Lansford man faces charges after a domestic dispute Saturday in which a woman was heard screaming from a rooftop.

Joshua Bregenzer, 35, of West Ridge Street, was arraigned on charges of aggravated assault, strangulation, simple assault, harassment and disorderly conduct by District Judge Joseph Homanko.

He was jailed in the Carbon County Correctional Facility in Nesquehoning in lieu of $25,000 bail.

According to court papers, a man came to the Lansford police station to report a domestic dispute at 11 W. Ridge St., and there was a woman on the roof screaming for help.

Lansford officers located the woman, who told them that her boyfriend, Bregenzer, assaulted her and took off down the road. Officers attempted to locate him.

The woman explained that she and Bregenzer argued and it became physical. He pushed her to the ground, got on top of her and put his hands around her throat and applied pressure, court papers said.

Bregenzer bit her cheek, grabbed her phone and threw it out of a front bedroom window onto a third-story roof, she told police.

She went out the window onto the roof to retrieve the phone, and Bregenzer followed her and attempted to push her off the roof, court papers said.

She attempted to fight him off and got back inside the residence. She attempted to de-escalate the situation and asked for a hug, she told police, and Bregenzer put his arm around her throat from behind and dragged her to the ground, court papers said.

The woman said she again had trouble breathing due to the pressure.

Her mother witnessed the argument and assault, telling police Bregenzer was on top of her daughter choking her, bit her cheek and attempted to throw her off the roof. Her daughter’s face turned red and her eyes began to bulge when he choking her a second time, court papers said.

Police said the woman’s injuries were consistent with an assault.

Bregenzer was free on unsecured bail following an incident in December, when he refused to come down off a West Patterson Avenue roof in Lansford. He was screaming profanities, shattered a window with his hands and resisted arrest.

He is awaiting formal arraignment in Carbon County court on the charges in the December incident.
