Fire damages home in Chestnuthill

No one was injured after a fire broke out at a home in Chestnuthill Township on Wednesday afternoon.

West End Fire Company Chief Mike Manfre Jr. said firefighters responded at 1:26 p.m. to a single home at 1109 Red Pine Road in Sun Valley.

Manfre said firefighters encountered a fully involved fire, as there was a brush fire that started near two other residences and was spreading behind the residences as well.

He said there were two people at home at the time of the fire, but that there were no injuries.

Manfre said multiple pets were in the house, some of which got out, but some are missing.

He said they had the fire knocked down within about 45 minutes, but that firefighters remained on scene for several hours.

Manfre said the home is a total loss, and added that he contacted the Red Cross, which was going to assist the homeowners.

He said the cause of the fire is undetermined and remains under investigation by a state police fire marshal.

“It took a little bit to get everything in place because we don’t have any hydrants, all the water had to get trucked in so we laid a line out to the main road and getting everything in place,” Manfre said. “Once everything was in place, it worked well.”

Manfre said also assisting at the scene were the Jackson Township Fire Company, Tunkhannock Township Fire Company, Blue Ridge Hook & Ladder Fire Company, Polk Township Fire Company, Department of Conservation and Natural Resources’ Bureau of Forestry and Lehigh Valley Health Network EMS with an ambulance on standby.
