Lenten services

Effort UMC is holding its Lenten service at 7 p.m. today and will continue to do so on Wednesdays through April 9.

Our Lady Queen of Peace Church, Brodheadsville, will hold Lenten services March 12, 19, 26, April 2 and 9.

Folks are invited to McCawley Hall each week at either 10 a.m. for coffee and treats plus program and discussions, or for 6-8 p.m. for dinner and program. Stations of the Cross are set for 7 p.m. Fridays during Lent.

Salem-St. Paul Lutheran, Kresgeville, will continue its worship and Lenten Bible study at 1 p.m. March 19.

Classes begin

The Monroe County Public Safety Center, 100 Gypsum Road, Stroudsburg, is hosting a free six-session wellness program for older adults offered by PennCares Support Services.

Classes begin at 9:30 a.m. Thursday.

WE Missions

Our Lady Queen of Peace Church is offering its next West End Missions meal at 4:30 p.m. Thursday.

Legion schedule

The West End Memorial American Legion Post 927’s cleanup day is from 9 a.m.-noon Saturday, and a St. Patrick’s Day party from 6:30-11:30 p.m. Saturday.

On Monday, doors open at 6:30 p.m. so card sales for bingo can begin. And on Tuesday, the Military Share Program takes place at 11 a.m., while the VALOR PTSD support monthly meeting takes place from 7-8 p.m.

Soup sale

Effort UMC is holding its last soup sale for the season. The soups are beef vegetable and cream of broccoli and cheese.

Orders are due by March 19. Pickup is March 23. For costs and other information, call the church at 570-629-1890.

Vigil Mass set

The Saturday Vigil Mass at Our Lady Queen of Peach Church will return to its normal time of 5 p.m. this Saturday.

Saturday Confessions will also return from 3:30-4:30 p.m.

Special dinners

Our Lady Queen of Peace Church is hosting a St. Patrick’s Day dinner at 6 p.m. Saturday in McCawley Hall. Advanced tickets only.

Holy Communion

Salem-St. Paul Lutheran Church, Kresgeville, will celebrate Holy Communion at both the 8:30 and 10:30 a.m. services.

Polk Township

The next Polk Township supervisors general meeting is set for 8 a.m. Friday.

Phantom’s Faith Night

The Lehigh Valley Phantoms hockey team is hosting its “Faith Night” Sunday at 3:05 p.m. Congregations and youth groups from all over the Lehigh Valley will enjoy an afternoon of hockey, networking and community.

There are also performance opportunities for congregations and groups.

The Pocono Women’s Group will meet at 7 p.m. Monday at Effort UMC, in Wesley Hall.

Prayer Shawl groups

Effort UMC’s Prayer Shawl group will meet Monday, beginning at 10:30 a.m.

Zion Lutheran’s group in Brodheadsville meets at 1 p.m. on the second and fourth Tuesday of the month.

Breakfast set

A St. Joseph’s Day breakfast, with zeppole, is being held at 8:30 a.m. March 19 in McCawley Hall of Our Lady Queen of Peace Church.

Bereavement aid

St. Luke’ s Hospice offers a Brodheadsville bereavement group for adults at the Western Pocono Community Library.

The group is open to the public and is led by a St. Luke’s Hospice bereavement counselor. No preregistration is required. The meetings are 1-2:30 p.m. The next meeting is March 29.

Also available is Grief Share on Sundays, from 2-4 p.m., at the Mount Eaton Church at 7277 Mount Eaton Road in Saylorsburg. The church can be reached at 570-992-7050.

Fish dinners continue

Fried or baked fish dinners are available at Our Lady Queen of Peace Church from 5-7 p.m. on March 21 and 28, and April 4 and 11.

All are welcome but there is a cost.

Children will be served pizza.

Krispy Kreme sale

Laymen’s Fellowship at St. Matthew’s church in Kunkletown is hosting its Krispy Kreme Fundraiser. The doughnuts will be sold through March 24. Pickup is April 2.

Embich’s art work

The work of Gary Embich will be in the art gallery of the Monroe County Conservation District’s Kettle Creek Environmental Education Center during March with his show of “America’s Beautiful.”

“America’s Beautiful” is a collection of 50 watercolor paintings that promote preservation by reminding people that all should do their part in keeping America beautiful by preventing wildfires that can destroy the unique things that each state has to offer.

The gallery at Kettle Creek is open Monday to Friday from 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. and will be open Saturday, March 22, from 9 a.m.-1 p.m.

There will be a “Meet the Artist” on March 22 from 11 a.m.-1 p.m.

Youth Ministry

Our Lady Queen of Peace church will host its Youth Ministry for seventh and eighth graders from 5:30-6:45 tonight, and also on March 26.

The next Teens of Peace meeting will be from 7-8:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Drive-thru supper

Zion Lutheran will be hosting its next free Community Supper drive-thru at 5 p.m. March 19.

Volunteers are reminded that preparation time begins at 2:30 p.m.

YouTube exercise

Chestnuthill Senior Center offers varied classes in which participants watch and follow online exercise videos in a group setting.

Call the Chestnuthill Senior Center at 570-242-6770 to find out what days and times. The West End Center, at Zion Lutheran Church in Brodheadsville, is open Wednesdays and Fridays from 9 a.m.-2 p.m.

Cleanup time

Directors of the Buena Vista Cemetery, Brodheadsville, remind people that all Christmas decorations in the cemetery must be removed by March 31.

If that is not done, staff will remove them to make room for Easter decorations.

Recipes bonus

“The Secret Ingredient,” a Monroe County Area Agency on Aging office cookbook, is on sale during the Easter season for a reduced price; call 570-420-3726.

LIHEAP, the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program, is still accepting applications for help with heating bills to those in need.

Polk history

Block shoot

The next block shoot and meat raffle by the Kunkletown Rod & Gun Club is set for 11 a.m. April 6 at 122 Gun Club Lane, Saylorsburg. It is open to the public. It is a 12-gauge shotgun event only.
