March 10, 1981 — Marian upsets top-seeded Nazareth in the District 11 Class 2A boys semifinals, using a big third quarter to help gain a 93-85 victory. The Colts, coached by Bob Schlosser, trail by one at halftime but outscore the Blue Eagles by a 23-11 margin in the third to grab a double-digit lead. Caszy Kosciolek tallies 11 of his team-high 24 points during the period, while John Angelo adds four. Nazareth cuts the gap to five in the fourth frame, but two free throws by Tim Moran and an inside bucket by Andy Sherkness widens the margin again and secures the win. Moran finishes with 19 points for the winners, while Greg Chelak ends with 17. Angelo nets 15, and Sherkness adds 12.
