Carbon organization raises money to care for cats
Carbon County Friends of Animals held a fundraiser on Saturday at the Carbon Plaza Mall in Lehighton. There was a bake sale with plenty of fresh home-baked goods, such as cookies, cakes, pies and cupcakes.
They also held a basket auction in conjunction with the bake sale. There were baskets of all sorts: a lottery ticket basket, a basket featuring Italian foods and sauces, one basket with barbecue and hot sauces, and baskets with toys, games, cleaning supplies and more.
There was an empty cart, too, where people could purchase items on the group’s wish list and place them in the cart.
Right now, the shelter population is low, according to Pam Poeldnurk, director of the shelter. But that won’t last long.
“Right now, we’re down a bit, to around 125 cats, which is nice,” Poeldnurk said. “But, kitten season is coming, and we are expecting a lot. In the spring, we get tons of kittens.”
Located in Jim Thorpe, CCFOA does not receive government funding. All their work is covered by volunteers, donors and employees. They rely on adoptions, donations, fundraisers, and its membership program.
