The 2025 Northeast PA Manufacturer and Employers Council Regional Spelling Bee, coordinated by Schuylkill Technology Center, will be held at 9 a.m. Saturday at DHH Lengel Middle School, Pottsville.
The event will include 42 spellers and 20 alternates representing Schuylkill County public school districts and nonpublic institutions.
Karen Durkin will be the pronouncer for the regional event, while Cynthia Mensch of Alvernia University, Devina Singh, former National Spelling Bee Competitor and Joshua Sophy of Coal Region Canary, will serve as judges. Ashley Hess of Schuylkill Intermediate Unit 29 will be the record keeper, with Cathy Bronakowski as appeals judge and Shannon Brennan of Schuylkill Technology Center as emcee.
Darlene Robbins and Courtney Fasnacht of Northeast Pennsylvania Manufacturers and Employers Council will present awards.
Pottsville Area School District is donating use of the DHH Lengel Middle School auditorium at no cost.
The winner will compete in the Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C. in May. The regional winner will also be awarded a trophy created and constructed by students enrolled in the Precision Machine Trades program at Schuylkill Technology Center as well as a $50 gift card provided by the Delta Kappa Gamma International Society.
