Nesquehoning Borough Council
Nesquehoning Borough Council acted on the following items during its monthly meeting last week:
• Approved the purchase of a BobCat UW56 vehicle for the sewer department in the amount of $41,000. This is under COSTARS.
• Awarded the sludge hauling contract to Environmental Services Corp. for $44,325. This was the lowest of the four bids received.
• Authorized ARRO Engineering to complete plans for a Department of Community and Economic Development grant for the New Columbus Park, including engineering fees and the grant application cost.
• Councilman Paul Kattner reminded residents that the parking area behind the borough building is only available for borough business. Residents not coming to the borough offices for business should park on the street.
• Councilwoman Lois Kuba reported that the borough has done great with managing the budget over the last several years, noting that the borough has not had to borrow money to offset the lack of taxes coming in at the beginning of the years.
• Kuba also announced that the Nesquehoning Historical Society will be planning a public forum to begin planning events in the borough to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the United States. She said that anyone who would like to participate in the forum is welcome; however, a date and time has not yet been determined. More information will be released as a meeting date is set.
• Approved a motion allowing Deborah DelFranco and Susan Bamford to attend the Pennsylvania State Association of Boroughs conference in June.
• Crossing guards are still needed. Anyone who would like to submit an application can do so by going to the borough office and picking up an application packet.
• A reminder that the borough is not accepting e-checks anymore for payments. It is only accepting credit card payments on the website.
