Walnutport Post Office hosts AT stamp ceremony

The Walnutport Post Office will dedicate the Appalachian Trail Stamps — which includes a stamp featuring Pennsylvania — at the Walnutport Post Office, 249 Lehigh Gap St., at 11 a.m. Friday.

Alexis McAllister, assistant Trail Committee chairwoman-East, Blue Mountain Climbing Club, will join Walnutport Postmaster Kate Hutter in dedicating the stamps. Hutter’s children, Otto and Brooke, will also deliver speeches regarding how young and old alike can enjoy the trail. Customers will also be able to obtain a special cancellation to commemorate the event.

“We are very excited to host this terrific event to pay tribute to our trail just minutes away from our post office,” Hutter said. “The trail means so much to our local folks as well as people across the country.”

The Appalachian National Scenic Trail offers 2,200 miles of unspoiled nature to the millions who hike it each year. Within easy reach of large East Coast metropolitan areas, the Appalachian Trail — often called the AT — provides peace, beauty and a break from the stresses of modern life.

The pane of 15 Forever Stamps features scenic images taken along the trail, which spans 14 states from Maine to Georgia.
